Different from French version
[edit]the english version of the Claude Story is very different with the french in the wikipedia website.
Please be sure that the informations in this page are true.
For example, The family name wasn't Gele any time. The true orthographe we know is Gellée. With two "l", one "é" and an "e". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.241.111.251 (talk) 17:53, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
Tassi
[edit]I've got rid of the 'now-infamous' description of Augustin Tassi. I know it seems a bit tiresome to complain about this. However, in this particular case I feel it is a bit confusing. Was his behaviour infamous then? That is a judgement. Is 'famous in a bad way' meant? And if so, why now? Is he famous at all? All in all, too confusing to stand.

Portrait
[edit]I'm dubious about this s-p in oils. This is possibly a self-portrait, after Sandrart, & certainly owned and used by Claude. When trimmed it seems best. Johnbod (talk) 18:14, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
- Agree. If I'm interpreting Google snippet views of French sources correctly, the oil is more likely Charles Mellin aka Charles le Lorrain. Ewulp (talk) 00:02, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
- After reflection, I now agree that the possible self-portrait (in a circle, engraved by Sandrart) is best for the infobox. Though arguably less 'flattering' than later Victorian representations of the artist, it's no less flattering than portraits of Gerard de Lairesse (just being facetious). The image is low resolution, but I may be able to obtain a higher resolution version (3600 X 2739 pixels) at RMN. I will enquire as to how to go about doing so. - The BM one is the only possible self-portrait I think. Sandrart presumably drew Claude, and later had this engraved. Claude (or someone else) presumably either copied the drawing around the time it was made (before the LV was started, I think), or maybe much later copied from the published engraving. In any case he clearly owned and approved this actual image, which we don't know about any other one. Johnbod (talk) 15:01, 13 August 2016 (UTC)
