I made some major edits and additional remarks. I have no access to his speeches and writings other than what found thru internet. If anyone has additional material, feel free to add. KaElin 05:04, 12 September 2006 (UTC). also 67.38.22.120[reply]

I'm doing a little research on Philippine history and, from what I have read, this page seems one-sided in its praise of Recto. For example, there is no discussion whatever of Recto as one of the chief collaborators with the occupation government (although his government service during the war years is briefly listed). This needs fixing before the article can pass muster. Diogenes Teufelsdroeckh (talk) 17:42, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The government under which he was "Minister of Foreign Affairs" in the mid-1940s was the Second Philippine Republic, which has been retroactively recognized as a legititmate government but was nonetheless basically a puppet government of the Japanese occupation forces. Recto is seen by many as a collaborator, but many other respected Filipino politicians of the era worked with the Japanese to one extent or another, and could argue (with some reason) that the fact that they did so likely meant that the Filipino people suffered less than they otherwise would have. However, there is lots of love for Recto here that just seems to echo the fact that he was no friend of the U.S. colonial government and some of it violates both the neutral point of view and the need for verififable sources. 2600:1004:B11D:38DA:9898:1D6B:8DCE:D596 (talk) 02:19, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Claro M. Recto/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

Article needs more details on personal life, contents in his speeches tojustify his being called "finest mind of his generation."68.73.5.136 15:36, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Major Source Unreferenced

[edit]

The previous editor before me did not quote perhaps the biggest source they used for this article, which is: THE FILIPINO MIND: Claro M. Recto - Biographies from the Internet.

Several paragraphs, or perhaps even the majority of the article came verbatim from this source, and the past editor did not cite it even once. Ignorance or intention, this is just disgusting lol. RoyalGamerX12 (talk) 07:06, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's cited now at least. RoyalGamerX12 (talk) 07:06, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
