Clarence's birthplace

[edit]

Yes, I know his findagrave entry says he was born in Bisbee. But I searched for Clarence in the Arizona birth and death records and found an image of his birth certificate which says he was born in a hospital in Lowell, Arizona. His parents were residents of Bisbee at the time, however, and Lowell seems to have been swallowed up by Bisbee, but was apparently considered a separate town at that time.

These may be nitpicking issues, so you're welcome to change his page if you like. DutchmanInDisguise (talk) 03:56, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Clarence's military service

[edit]

When I first stumbled over this article, it said something about Clarence being "assigned to General George Patton's Tank Corps and saw combat at the Battle of the Bulge." There was no source given for the information. His findagrave site said he was an infantryman in that same battle, so I deleted the mention of Patton and tanks and used findagrave's description.

Yesterday, I discovered the Warren ballpark site, which was obviously assembled by local people who remembered Clarence Maddern. It was very specific about Clarence serving in the 76th Infantry Division, which arrived at the Western Front just as the Battle of the Bulge was ending. The 76th, which was a part of Patton's Third Army, fought its way across Germany and saw plenty of action.

I think it'll be sufficient, for the purposes of this very brief article, to mention the 76th, in which Maddern served honorably. DutchmanInDisguise (talk) 14:48, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Clarence's movie career

[edit]

I question the correctness of the information in his article. I couldn't locate any entry for him at IMDb, nor is he listed among the many ballplayers who had small parts in The Stratton Story at IMDb. Can anybody find evidence for the statements about his movie career? DutchmanInDisguise (talk) 02:46, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removing unsourced material

[edit]

I am editing Clarence Maddern's article today to remove material which was added by user Leehayesbisbee, who is quite likely the same person as the Leehayesnaco who made other changes to the article a year ago.

Here's what I'm taking out:

  • As mentioned above, there's no evidence at IMDb that Maddern ever had a film career, such as other ballplayers like Jigger Statz and Truck Hannah did, and which is duly documented in their Wikipedia articles. The material I'm removing included a specific reference to The Stratton Story, for which numerous ballplayers are listed at IMDb, but with no mention of Maddern.
  • There is no evidence of any involvement with movie stars such as Shelley Winters.
  • Lee Hayes, or whoever, inserted a reference to Clarence's golfing within a quote from the Friends of Warren site, even though that page doesn't say anything about his playing golf.

I'm not saying that what I'm removing is untrue, only that if it's going to be in the article, it needs to have some kind of source listed for it. DutchmanInDisguise (talk) 05:34, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
