Left wing?

[edit]

82.147.17.70 made a good edit but I don't agree with the removal of the term left-wing. It may be that not all members consider themselves Left-wing but it remains a fact that their general politics would be termed left-wing. Of course 'Left-wing' is a not a very exact catagory anyway.--JK the unwise 18:01, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No reply, so I've changed it back.--JK the unwise 13:31, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

JK you may be unwise, but you are not a rebel clown so please don't call us Left wing. We don't collectively associate with the term. To label anything at all on such a simplistic flat plane is ridiculous. There are so many different issues, different campaigns, different movements. They do not all fit so neatly onto a left-right divide. To use this scale is to let the anti-authoritarian movement be conquered and divided.

To look at it another way - there are many left wing organisations and movements that are authoritarian and are likely to be the target of some future clown action.

Left-wing = in support of self-determination for all. In other words, these authoritarian left-wing organisations are to the right of the clowns by virtue of being authoritarian. It's not a contradiction at all.

I've just checked your home page and see you very readily call yourself a left-winger and I suppose you calling us left-wing is a sign of appreciation of what we do. We probably have worked side-by-side at various actions. But I think there is an important distinction between an anti-authoritarian group and a group that fits neatly onto a flat 1 dimensional political line. Please leave "left wing" out. As you say, it's not a very exact category anyway. Cheers. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.147.17.70 (talk • contribs) 7 Nov 2005.

Defineing a group as left-wing doesn't mean that all it is is left-wing, to label something on a simplistic flat plane is not to claim that it does not have further dimentions that are not captured by the discription system. From an observational perpsective it seems to me that the CIRCA are campain against issules from a persective that is more then anti-authoriatrian; would a right-wing libitarian be welcome in CIRCA? Even if the answer is yes, are there any right-wing libitarians in CIRCA? If you look at the Left-wing politics page you will see that the term is used to refer to many groups that oppose each other, from social democrates to Revolutionary Marxists, from Starlinists to Anarcists, these groups have 'targeted' and fought each over many times but this does not change the fact that in comman usage they are all refered to as left-wing.
The key argument is this, wikipedia generally works to reflect rather then correct popular usage and poppular usage would define CIRCA as left-wing.--JK the unwise 13:57, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A "right-wing libertarian" is either confused or a demagogue who actually has no concern about anyone's liberty but their own. A society based on the freedom of the able and lucky to constrict the freedom of the vulnerable for their own gain is not a free society.

Pinkos

[edit]

I don't know if clowns are left wing, but they are certainly pinkos.

Seriously, I think in England it is possible to self-describe oneself as left-wing and mean anti-big government. In the US, left wing means "Godless communist terrorist traitor" and few if any Americans self identify themselves as left wing. Note, however, the recent UCLA??? study that identified all Democrats as "left wing". Rick Norwood 14:37, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In the US, quite different from the UK in this respect, left-wing suggests extremism, leftist only somewhat so, and "on the left" less so. Almost any American socialist or social democrat would gladly say that they are "on the left"; the Air America Radio happily calls themselves part of the left; most anarchists would say they are on the left, but of course we have the weird exception of those "anarcho-capitalists" (who I don't consider anarchists, but they consider themselves to be so). And it depends where in the US you are. A lot of people in the West Coast cities (especially SF, Portland, Seattle) proudly refer to it as the Left Coast.
Seems to me that this group is clearly on the left. That doesn't mean they love everyone else on the left: there's an old joke about leftist firing squads standing in a circle. But I don't see any sign that they have any political affinities that are right of centre. -- Jmabel | Talk 10:32, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Jmabel's analysis is correct from my understanding as well. The CIRCA reminds me somewhat of the YIPPIE movment in the US. Giovanni33 20:03, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
