Moving page from "Civil service of Republic of Ireland" to "Civil Service of Ireland"

[edit]

Controversial moves require consensus. BastunBaStun not BaTsun 19:24, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have proposed that this article be moved to "civil service of Ireland". This accords with the name of the state which is "Ireland" not "Republic of Ireland" - (See Names of the Irish state). There is, in my view, no room for confusion with the island of Ireland in this case because islands do not have civil services. The move is currently being discussed at Wikipedia talk:Irish Wikipedians' notice board. Please support this move. Redking7 (talk) 21:53, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speaking as a civil servant this might cause confusion as there is also a Civil Service in Northern Ireland and "Ireland" mainly refers to the island of Ireland. What about "Irish Civil Service" or if you had a page to get you to click on Civil Service in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland?

You seem to think people could be confused and think that an "island" has a civil service....Why would any one think that? "Ireland" in the context above, could only mean, the Irish state. Regards. Redking7 (talk) 00:12, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

People don't have the same background and knowledge as you. If someone is not familiar with the political situation of Ireland they may assume that the civil service covers all of Ireland, rather than a part of it. To avoid this confusion, it is better to be clear, as Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and should give clear information.

Re: Image Request - what possible image could you use? As the article says its a "collective term". Removing image request.
