Expanded article with sources

[edit]

I added some stuff, some more I will try to add later when I get more free time. I tried to repair a general negative tone tot he article, and POV unsourced opinions about what Baltimore fans thought of him. Yeah, now that is real cruicial info- what Oriole fans think of him, geez, do they even play in the American League anymore or did they get contracted into the D-rays?--Mikerussell 18:52, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Making up fake names to add to the article

[edit]

A user from IP adress at Sun Prairie, Wisconsin inserted some bunk about a made up name. Please go outside and play or something instead of ruining Cito's article, what did he ever do to you?--Mikerussell 23:26, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Firing and interim years

[edit]

This article urgently needs:

  • Facts of his firing as manager of the Blue Jays after the glory years.
  • What he actually did (and where he lived) after that.

I think we need to remove "and seemed uninterested in keeping his position." Seemed to whom? That is opinion, not fact. Please remove it, keeper of this article. --Holeinthetoad (talk) 16:03, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Place of Birth Discrepancy

[edit]

I noticed that within the article it is stated that Cito Gaston was born in San Antonio, however in the box on the right hand side of the page his birthplace is listed as Haiti. I don't know which is correct, Baseball References lists San Antonio. Can anyone correct this? 66.30.162.161 (talk) 02:19, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Eric[reply]

1991 Managerial Record

[edit]

I have 3 sources that provide Cito Gaston's Win/Loss record without the games he missed due to his hernia operation:

http://www.thebaseballcube.com/managers/87.shtml

http://www.baseball-reference.com/managers/gastoci01.shtml

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/coach?id=85

I recognize that baseball-almanac.com[1] includes the games Gene Tenace managed & credits it to Cito ... but the three other sources I provided don't. Amchow78 (talk) 23:13, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My reference (http://www.baseball-almanac.com/mgrtmtj.shtml) is much more reliable than any of your 3, but I'm not going to enter an edit war with you as I am sure you will be reverting anything I do. If we were to use your logic then any time a manager misses a game, whether it be because of illness or a funeral, that game would not go on his record, and on the Toronto Blue Jay all-time list of managers we would have all these one-time managers who managed one game here and there. In 32 years of the Toronto Blue Jays I am quite sure managers have missed games for one reason or another, not just Cito Gaston. Then we would have to come up with another rule where missing one game or two would not count as "not managed by the hired manager" but anything as high as 33 would be. But like I said, you want to be wrong, then stay wrong. By the way, if you are going to change the chart, then make the edit complete and correct. If the 1991 numbers change, so will the career totals, just in case you didn't know. Thirdly, the "updated to September 28, 2008" statement that you so kindly deleted DOES come in handy. People will be editing the chart as the 2009 season progresses, just in case you didn't think of that either, but I'm not surprised. Juve2000 (talk) 01:23, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I changed my mind regarding your ESPN sports reference. It appears to be tied in closely to the ELIAS SPORTS BUREAU, which is arguably the bible of sports statistics. I could not confirm that ESPN statistics mirror the ELIAS SPORTS BUREAU but I will not argue the 1991 season stats anymore. I do think the update date should stay and the definetely the career totals need do be changed. Juve2000 (talk) 01:50, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Picture

[edit]

To improve the quality of this article, i really think that we should get a modern picture of him, and get rid of the one from the '90s. There are plenty of pictures of him online, the thing is finding one with a free license. We could keep the picture that we have now for a spot later on in the article and have a little fact about how he is the only Jays manager to win the world series.99.234.145.123 (talk) 01:39, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you find a free image, go ahead and add it. Free images are often harder to find than you think. Enigmamsg 02:07, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

World Series Seasons

[edit]

I'd "be bold" and fix this myself but the article is protected.

In the "World Series Seasons" section, the team's success is credited with attracting a number of free agents, including Rickey Henderson. However, Henderson was acquired by the Jays in a July 1993 mid-season trade with Oakland, and he re-signed with Oakland after the 1993 season was over. He never signed with Toronto as a free agent.
