https://jstor.org/stable/43558218, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ode.2009.01.001 and https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0006362 seem to show that both genera sensu Flora Iberica are polyphyletic if you don't accept one broad Cistus, as POWO does. I found this paper which claims phylogenetic work supports separation (https://doi.org/10.1007/s11557-020-01641-0), but the citations are the above which seem to suggest the opposite...

However, The Plant List demurs. I wonder if we shouldn't pick a common name to host the article at anyway; supposedly, Sargassum was named after the Portuguese common name for this plant. Arlo James Barnes 03:20, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Plant List is obsolete – note the date on the entry; it should no longer be used. It's not a case of changing one species, though. The evidence for following PoWO and sinking the whole genus Halimium into Cistus seems strong. Peter coxhead (talk) 20:53, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
