articles needs total rewrite

[edit]

This article reads from start to finish like a self-congratulatory press release, or a fannish record review in a zine. Wikipedia articles about records are not record reviews. This article violates almost every convention of Wikipedia writing standards: POV, OR, flattery, conversational style, etc. User:TARDIS defended the article in his edit summary, but he needs a refresher course in Wikipedia policies. Here's just a few of the problems:

  • conversational style: "Speaking of arguments..."
  • unsourced hyperbole: "Although Circle Slide was greeted with almost universal critical praise..."
  • Record-review-style analysis: "However, those difficulties are balanced out by the acknowledgment of true love for his wife despite the tension..."
  • Opinionated WP:OR violations: "it is obvious that..."
  • WP:WEASEL language: "many critics and long-time listeners consider this album to be the band's finest work"
  • just plain bad writing: "Even with all the popular success that greeted Wide-Eyed Wonder and the band's relentless touring in support of that record, the circumstances that surrounded the creation of Circle Slide were fraught with difficulty, not unlike Chase the Kangaroo, to which this album is often compared."

That's for starters. wikipediatrix 03:49, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

@Wikipediatrix: Finally done already after 11 years by Mitchell k dwyer. Interlude 65 (Push to talk) 03:32, 16 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the shout-out. This is a great album and it deserves a great Wikipedia article. Maybe in another 11 years I'll get around to doing that, too.  :) Mitchell k dwyer (talk) 02:17, 17 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Wikipediatrix: Looking back in retrospect, I have to totally agree with your criticism, and have taken it to heart. I was new to Wikipedia at the time, and plenty ignorant, so I have learned much since. To that end, I have updated the articles for the Choir's first four studio releases, up through Chase the Kangaroo and will get to this one hopefully in the next few weeks. Chase the Kangaroo required several days of research, and at least three full days to write and notate, so it may be a little while. :) TARDIS (talk) 01:28, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Updated and expanded article

[edit]

I am in the process of revising all the album entries for the Choir, removing POV language, adding relevant information with reliable sources and doing basic formatting and cleanup, and the current version of Circle Slide as of today is the result. This involved a trip to the Los Angeles Central Library to collect much of the information listed in the Bibliography, as well as any available archived print versions of CCM Magazine. (Unfortunately, the library's print archives for this source only go back to the year 2000.) Because this album was released pre-internet, there are a number of significant reviews of this album that are simply not accessible on the Web or available in the Internet Archive. These are listed specifically at CMNexus.org: The Choir. Any assistance with securing and adding content from these reviews would be most appreciated! TARDIS (talk) 19:32, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
