Recent material added by a New York IP editor is missing inline citations of independent reliable sources for verification of claims made in the article. Also, if the editor is involved with Cinereach, welcome. Corrections and removal of falsehoods are welcome. But instead of making major changes to the article, suggest those changes here on the article's Talk page first, per our conflict of interest guidelines. Staff Initiated Edits

Apologies! Thanks for your patience with our inexperience in this community. Our aim is to remove or correct outdated company info for which we are the primary source (like active and discontinued programs offered to filmmakers and updates to the listing of films that we are affiliated with as a funder and production company). Some items in the Cinereach Wikipedia article reference our website Cinereach.org but link to pages that were removed years ago. Outside sources cited are from 2012 and older, and contain information that should be replaced with newer coverage.

We will start a new section to list factual corrections.

Factual corrections about Cinereach programs from Cinereach staffer

A few factual corrections to the Cinereach posting:

1. Para 1 states: "Cinereach is a nonprofit[1] film funding organization in New York, NY, founded in 2006, which provides grants, awards, and an annual fellowship "to films from underrepresented perspectives."[2] The organization also has partnerships with other film development organizations such as the Sundance Institute[3] and other film funding organizations such as the Skoll Foundation.[4]"

- correction 1: "to films from underrepresented perspectives" is not an accurate representation of our mission statement. Our mission is to fund and produce films "at the intersection of engaging storytelling, visual artistry and vital subject matter." We do this through three areas, Grants & Awards (grants for feature fiction and nonfiction films at any stage of production), The Reach Film Fellowship (funding and mentorship for short films being taken from concept to completion by emerging directors) and our in-house Productions (film financing) departments.

- correction 2: We do have a partnership with the Sundance Institute, but not with the Skoll Foundation.

Para 2 states: "The Cinereach annual Reach Film Fellowship promotes and awards funds to documentary and narrative "socially relevant" films. In 2008, Reach Fellowship grants were awarded to four recipients, producing three documentaries and one narrative film, in the amount $5000 each.[5]"

- correction: It is important to note that The Reach Film Fellowship it is for short films, and for emerging filmmakers. We usually select two fiction films and two nonfiction films to participate in the program, but that is not a hard-and-fast rule. Thanks for checking in, for discussing, and WP:Welcome to Wikipedia. First, does anything in the article damage Cinereach by misrepresenting it? If not, then we can at our leisure discuss desirable changes. CR has the clear right to delete false or defamatory information, but material to be added must still have sources cited to support it.

Do you have independent, verifiable (WP:V) reliable sources (WP:RS) which affirm your corrections? Please read those two linked policies and guidelines.

I'll buy that CR doesn't have a partnership in a strict legally-binding sense with Kroll, but it seems like they think they have some sort of a partnership with CR (see the citation), unless I'm really reading that wrong. Would "cooperates with" be a better term? Or just "along with"?

It's a fine line between paraphrasing so that concepts are understandable to a general reader not in the film-funding biz, and quoting PR direct from a primary source (CR). Wikipedia has a mission not to serve as a mouthpiece for any person or organization, embodied in WP:PROMO (please read it), hence the requirement for independent verification of claims. If anybody outside CR understands what CR does, our tendency is to report what they say, and follow up perhaps with some details from CR itself.

There was some text added by CR staff some time ago, which remains unsourced. This is bound to be deleted unless inline citations are found to support the rather detailed claims made.

Hi there. Thanks for your attention to our factual corrections. I understand and appreciate why your site prefers to keep information that comes from sources outside of the organization being profiled. Some third party sources, including industry press, should be able to help future contributors improve and flesh out the Cinereach Wikipedia page.

I wouldn't say the inaccuracies on the current page exactly "damage" Cinereach in a quantifiable way, but they make the piece less useful, especially if the reader is a filmmaker seeking funds or a non-profit peer looking for partnership. It's not that much of the post is completely factually incorrect, but it does seem to highlight pieces of information that are outdated or not essential to what Cinereach is/does, and seem to construe and generalize about Cinereach with misplaced emphasis. This has the result of seeming to incorrectly characterize Cinereach.

Regarding the claim that we have a partnership with the Skoll Foundation: the article you site lists the Sundance institute's major supporters. In one paragraph it lists both Cinereach and Skoll as supporters of Sundance. While Skoll and Cinereach have their support of Sundance in common, and are somewhat like-minded organizations, the reference article sited does not mention any connection between Cinereach and Skoll.

2018 Factual Corrections and Updates

I am a member of the Cinereach staff, the company this article is about. The requested edits below include subtractions, additions and clarifying points. The article has not been edited since 2011/12 and references information at our web site, Cinereach.org, that was removed from the site years ago. Below I am suggesting citing the current Cinereach.org to replace outdated info that currently points to discontinued pages on the same domain. I realize that the website of a company featured in an article is not the ideal source for some types of information, but because the current article cites so much of its information from Cinereach.org (and pages that no longer exist there) I'm hoping that we can correct some of this information by pointing to pages on Cinereach.org that do exist. I also site third party sources where possible.

Correction #1

In the box at top right containing the logo:

• Subtract: "Creative Director: Mike Raisler" There is no Creative Director on the current Cinereach staff list About Us
• Subtract: "Budget: $500,000." In past years grant-making totaled $500K, but today Cinereach grants over $1 million annually. Cinereach's granting program (one of several activities of Cinereach) is described on our site.
• Clarifying point: The "grant-making" budget is distinct from the total budget of the organization but the two are treated as one number in this article. The organization's budget includes our grant-making plus all activities across the organization, financing, co-financing and producing films, administrative costs, salaries, etc. Latest 990 forms for FY2018 have not yet been released so are not cited here. In short: $500K is not the grant-making budget "nor" the organizational budget of Cinereach.

Correction #2

"Reach Film Fellowship" was discontinued in 2012:

• Subtract: "The Cinereach annual Reach Film Fellowship promotes and awards funds to documentary and narrative short films for emerging filmmakers, in varying amounts. In 2008, Reach Fellowship grants were awarded to four recipients, producing three documentaries and one narrative film, for $5000 each.” The Reach Film Fellowship ended 6 years ago and is no longer among Cinereach's active programs on the relevant page of Cinereach.org

• Addition: Cinereach now runs a different program referred to as the "Cinereach Fellowship" (since 2013). The current program description lives on Cinereach.org cited again here and can be quoted as follows: "The Cinereach Fellowship is a customized, year-long program for filmmakers at transitional points in their careers. Fellows receive opportunities to deepen their connection to their work, explore what professional development means to them, and experiment with new ideas. Past fellows include Eliza Hittman , Barry Jenkins, and Terence Nance.

Correction #3

Production and Financing

• Addition: The article excludes a major category of Cinereach activity, production and financing. A description of this activity is on the what we do page and can be quoted as follows "Cinereach takes on several projects each year to develop, produce, and finance. Recent productions include the narrative feature film Beach Rats , a screen adaptation of Justin Torres’ novel We the Animals and , and MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A, a documentary about the musician M.I.A.. Cinereach can also serve the diverse needs film projects present through equity and debt financing with other production companies, co-financiers and investors, and by seeking co-production partners globally. Recent films Cinereach has co-financed include Sorry to Bother You / and Brimstone & Glory . Older Cinereach-produced titles include the documentary Teenage, based on the book by Jon Savage , Beasts of the Southern Wild and more."

Cinereach grant-making information:

• Subtract: “Each year, over $500,000 in funding is disbursed.“ Cinereach.org is cited for this fact, but the referenced information is not there. Current Cinereach grant program information is found here as follows:
• Addition: "Each year Cinereach awards 20-30 grants—comprising over $1 million to new and existing grantees. Grants amounts ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 can be awarded to support any stage of a film’s progression, from development to completion. Throughout its engagement with grantees, Cinereach may also offer additional resources to increase the films’ momentum. The Florida Project , Dina , and Strong Island are recently released grantees."
• Subtract: “Cinereach supports feature-length nonfiction and fiction films through two grant cycles (summer and winter).[citation needed].” Cinereach has a rolling submissions process currently, and no longer conducts two cycles each year as indicated here.
• Subtract: “...Within each cycle, between five and fifteen projects are selected to receive support. They support films that are at the intersection of engaging storytelling, visual artistry and vital subject matter...Cinereach-supported films favor story over message, character over agenda and complexity over duality." This information cites a discontinued page and should instead reference the grants section of this page. Submission guidelines for all programs are found on our submissions page.

• Subtract: “Films supported by Cinereach in recent years include: Return (2011), Donor Unknown, The Forgiveness of Blood, Pariah, Entre nos, Bully, The Boy Mir, Kinyarwanda, and Circumstance.“ These films were supported by Cinereach but are not “recent.”

1. The references for the films are all good ones, so I can add them to the article. However, the citations provided all use bare references when the article uses a particular Citation template. These need to be placed using this citation style. Then I can add them to the article.
2. Information on the past fellowships seems ok, but I think placing it in its own section might be too much, considering there are only 2 names. Maybe this can be added alsewhere? Please advise.

@Spintendo: Thank you again! I believe I've fixed the format of the references above for the supported and produced films. I hope those work better now! Let's leave off the two Fellows for now. I expect I will be able to add more with new sources soon, so I'll plan to come back and request an edit accordingly when there's enough there to stand alone.
