Suggestions
[edit]I would suggest this should be moved to Cinema of Scotland, in line with Cinema of the United Kingdom, Cinema of India, etc. The Cinema of the UK article also provides a decent format, with history, genres, and so on, which could be adapted here, rather than just a bare list of Scottish films, directors, etc. Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 10:04, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
eep.. what a mess!
[edit]I'll get to work on this travesty of a page as soon as I have some spare time.

Tax relief and benefits
[edit]The source that has been provided to support the claim that "The country benefits from being able to offer tax reliefs for film and high-end TV productions" is Screen Scotland's own enumeration of those tax reliefs. The tax reliefs clearly exist, but is the benefit claim sustainable? See for example Glasgow Live, Feb 2022 and BBC News, August 2022 on the detrimental impact of the Batgirl filming on actual Scottish businesses. AllyD (talk) 09:14, 23 March 2025 (UTC)
Article scope and content
[edit]This article has, as previous comments noted, always been problematic, too often a list of names with potted summaries of their linked biographical articles. To be a topic it needs content to bind it together, for example the socio-economic landscape into which Bill Forsyth's early films were an intervention. Goodreg3's recent additions are a step in that direction, though, in my opinion, read too much like a Screen Scotland brochure. The article should balance current institutions, facilities and services with the longer-run history and dynamics (not easy, will need decent sources).
At risk of adding to the lists of names, if the actors should be listed, then so too should notable Scottish screenwriters (James Kennaway, Alan Sharp, Allan Scott (Scottish screenwriter)), directors (Murray Grigor), and film composers (Muir Mathieson). Also completely missing are prominent figures in the development of documentary (John Grierson) and animation (Norman McLaren) - and of course William Kennedy Dickson, maker of the earliest sound film. - Hi. I appreciate the recognition of recent work to improve the article. Working is continuing, with much mote still to do. I will be making further contributions in the coming weeks, particularly looking to provide more information and context to remove excessive lists. Goodreg3 (talk) 17:04, 23 March 2025 (UTC)
