VOCAL STYLE

Some musician or musicologist ought to mention Pierson and Wilson's legato phrasing style. It seems to be an important and distinctive part of the B-52's sound. I wonder where they learned it. Church in Georgia, perhaps? Choir in High School? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.207.244.4 (talk) 18:36, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Added a paragraph, and I think the article is readable now. It may need a second paragraph on her work '80-90. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.68.6.12 (talk) 19:13, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Needs rewrite

[edit]

I tagged the article for a rewrite. The lead is too short. The beginning of the article section, "Career" introduces Wilson as a waitress. The next line is about a brother who dies, and another couple of lines assumes that the reader knows all about Wilson's participation over several years in the band, The B-52s. Really glaring problems throughout the biography, even for a stub. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 03:22, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Early/Personal Life and Recent Work

[edit]

Hello - The typical structure of early and personal life sections appear absent. The referenced link to a bio in the article provides a lot more detail. http://www.biography.com/people/cindy-wilson-17189470#35-years-later-and-counting Ms. Wilson also appears to be producing solo work in recent years not mentioned in the article, but would expect to be relevant. 1957–1975: Early life

[edit]

The third sentence is almost completely in conflict with her brother Ricky Wilson's Wikipedia page sectim "Early Life."

In Cindy's article, "When Ricky was 19 years old, he began learning to play guitar..."

However, Ricky Wilson's "Early Life" states: "At an early age, Wilson developed an interest in music and learned how to play folk guitar from the NET series Learning Folk Guitar. Upon entering Clarke Central High School, Wilson had upgraded to a Silvertone guitar"

1. Wikipedia's page for NET shows Launched, May 16, 1954 (as a network); Closed, October 4, 1970. 2. Ricky was born in 1953. Assuming he started kindergarten in 1958 at age 5, and advancing to the next grade each year after, he would have entered high school 9th grade in 1967, at the age of 14, playing well enough to be ready to replace his instrument. 3. Having learned from lessons on the NET network, and having turned 17 years old by the time NET closed, he could not have begun learning to play guitar at 19. 4. Even if we generously gave him starting to play guitar and maintaining the discipline to learn at the same time he entered puberty, then that is 12 years old, or seven years earlier than stated in Cindy's article. Upgrading to the Silvertone guitar upon entering high school, age 14, still five years earlier. 5. "...and invited Cindy to harmonize along with his instrumentation." So was he asking her to harmonize along with him when he was learning at age 12, when she was age 8? Or, was it when he entered high school at age 14, her age 10? He'd gotten serious enough about music to invest in a multi-track recorder. Was she harmonizing well enough at 8 or 10 years of age for him to include her in his sessions? Not saying it isn't possible, but, he'd have been a saint of a young teenager to be inviting his younger sister, two to four years shy yet of pre-teenage, to join him. However, having him begin to learn to play at age 19, and having her harmonize along with him at her age 15, is a narrative anyone can swallow. 6. If you follow up on the reference for the statement "When Ricky was 19 years old, he began learning to play guitar..." the reference actually states that when *she* was 19 years old, Ricky began learning to play guitar, and from lessons on the University of Georgia's TV station. He would have been 23 years old, and it would have been 1976. Ricky supposedly graduated from the university in 1976. So, one year after starting to play the guitar, they all get together as the B-52s? 7. If he started learning guitar at age 23 as she claims, what instrument did he play along with his three friends in the band "Black Narcissus" in 1970, six years earlier? Voice type

[edit]

Contralto is a very low female voice, my guess would be Cindy Wilson has a rather high register, like mezzo or soprano WikiYannV (talk) 20:21, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
