Change needed

[edit]

The revelation that the 1880 season belongs to a separate franchise from this Cincinnati Reds needs a correction. This Reds club should be listed as 1876-1879. I've worked as much as possible to update this great site but the 1880 year needs to be omitted from this club as the records are starting to show, beginning with Retrosheet. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SCSRdotorg (talkcontribs) 04:56, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New revelations with this Reds club

[edit]

Been doing a ton of research on the era of Cincinnati baseball from 1869 to 1899. The second incarnation of the Reds actually went fro 1876-1879. The 1880 season belonged to a new major league team called the Cincinnati Stars. The 1879 Reds disband, leaving a vacant NL spot. A semi-pro team called the Cincinnati Stars were admitted. Soooooo, a brand new team was added to the NL for the 1880 season. Over the years their stats were lumped into the second Reds club. Retrosheet agreed with my findings and corrected their records. If Wiki will let me, I can write an article correcting the records here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SCSRdotorg (talkcontribs) 06:03, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Same as 1882 team?

[edit]

If someone can find a cite for the fact that this is the same team as the 1882 team that eventually became the Cincinnati Reds of today, it would be very useful. -Dewelar (talk) 00:40, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More specifically, the 1882 team-season page specifically states that the two teams were unrelated. I'm putting up a disputed tag on that piece of information. -Dewelar (talk) 18:51, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The team had some of the same players, but a different ownership. It is usually regarded as a separate franchise. The franchise that began play in 1882 in the American Association is regarded as the same franchise that still plays today. Sweaver5 (talk) 02:44, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1875 or 1876 as the birth of this Reds club ?

[edit]

Should this Reds birth actually be listed as 1875 instead of 1876 ? The club was actually organized as an independent professional club during the summer of 1875. They played their first game on August 9th 1875. Here is a link to my website where I have the game posted. http://www.scsr.org/19CCBB/Teams/CR2/1875/BS/08/09.htm This independent club went on to join the new National League in 1876, playing in the League until 1880.
