'Chupat'

[edit]

References to the meaning of the Tehuelche word 'Chupat' seem to be divided between 'winding' (as in meandering) and 'transparent', both refering to the river. I had put both within the article but this was not too satisfactory. However, the slogan of the website of the Gobierno de la Provincia de Chubut is 'Ser Transparente, ser Chubut'. So I assume that the Provincial authorities think it to be 'transparent' I have removed the reference to 'winding' from the article but hope someone can find a definitive reference. I found no spanish reference that would lead me to believe that it might be possible that, perhaps, 'Chupat' could means 'winding' or anything similar. -Mariano 07:51, 28 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Number of Welsh speakers

[edit]

This article says there are 25,000 in Chubut. The article Welsh language says 5,000. Big difference. -86.134.12.250 06:51, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welsh First?

[edit]

Why is the Welsh named listed before the Spanish name for a province which has <1% Welsh speakers? Seems a bizarre favoritism towards the exotic at best, and towards British colonialism at worst. 2603:8080:1304:B200:ED98:1EA8:94E2:E99 (talk) 20:51, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lead sentence

[edit]

MOS:ALTNAME says "When this title is a name, significant alternative names for the topic should be mentioned in the article, usually in the first sentence or paragraph." Why is the Welsh name in the lead? Why is that name significant alternative name? Roger 8 Roger (talk) 21:46, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
