Overall: This review is for the main hook proposed. While this hook should already satisfy basic DYK criteria, I would still suggest some wordsmithing to more clearly indicate the fact that Soyinka had actually written no novels inbetween, or to reword the hook entirely - e.g. (ALT2) " ... that Chronicles from the Land of the Happiest People on Earth was Wole Soyinka's first novel in nearly fifty years?" That's all assuming that the WP:DYK5X concern can be resolved, though. Regards, HaeB (talk) 22:07, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
- Update: Since there has been no reaction to the issue brought up above, and the time window for fixing it has passed (i.e. the seven days since
the last version of the article before the expansion began
, per WP:DYK5X), we'll unfortunately have to consider this submission as rejected. - Regards, HaeB (talk) 06:04, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
- I've left the nominator a talk page message regarding the above since it appears they weren't pinged or notified about the review. If there's still no response in the next few days and/or the issues remain unaddressed this can be closed. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 05:38, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

[edit]- From here, complete the publisher's name to "Bookcraft Africa." Note: The "C" is not capitalized!
- Done
The novel is a satirical political novel
For this, I suggest optionally it be turned to perhaps "The novel is a Political satirical novel."- Link "political satirical" to in-site-linking "Political satire"
- Done
It is his third novel, and his first since Season of Anomy in 1973.
needs to be placed right after the author to show lining. Perhaps "...novelist Wole Soyinka. It is his third novel, and his first since Season of Anomy in 1973. The novel was released/published on 28 September 2021, by BookCraft Africa."
- I am skeptical of the publishers. Here Kirkus review said it was by Pantheon Books, also was confirmed by the Amazon's information.
- From this source, it was first published on December 1, 2020 as Hardcover by "Bookcraft Africa". I suggest you add both of them. (cite to this source and kirkus review)
- Partly done See, WP:GOODREADS.
- Remove the "External links" section if it serves no purpose

Background & writing
[edit]- This sentence
Nobel Prize winner[1] Wole Soyinka had wanted to write mysteries and got the inspiration for this novel for almost a decade before he started writing just before the COVID-19 pandemic
is too long. Cut pls. Begin perhaps after "...almost a decade" as "He started writing the novel before the Covid-19 pandemic." - Link "Ghana"
- Done
Reception
[edit]- The reception is written well but here are my few issues:
Chronicles received a starred review from Kirkus Reviews which lauded the wordplay
I want to get a bit wonderful quote from Kirkus- Start that with perhaps "In a starred review by Kirkus Reviews, the book (instead of shortening it to "Chronicles") was .....
- Not done. The review was more of the book and a few judgement on the book itself.
while Publishers Weekly in a positive review, noted that Chronicles is "A biting satire that looks at corruption in an imaginary contemporary Nigeria, Chronicles is also an intriguing and droll whodunit." and "A brilliant story that takes on politics, class, corruption, and religion from the very first chapters. It highlights Soyinka's lush, elegant language
is too long. Start as a new sentence- Perhaps reword like "Publishers Weekly praised the book as "a biting satire that looks...."
- Ditto
- Here
Ben Okri, a Nigerian writer who contributed a review for The Guardian, called the book "a vast danse macabre" and "Soyinka' greatest novel, his revenge against the insanities of the nation’s ruling class and one of the most shocking chronicles of an African nation in the 21st century."
Reword perhaps "Reviewing for The Guardian, Nigerian writer Ben Okri called the book "a vast.....- Done
- Here also
In a review for Complete Review M. A. Orthofer gave it a B+ praising the "impressively-
reword perhaps "M. A. Orthofer rated the novel B+ in Complete Review saying ...."- Slightly reworded.
- The last one is good
- Thank you

[edit]- The reference layout is good
Image review
[edit]- Images are good and well cited!
- The first is the "Book cover" and the second was at a talk. Both are well presented.
I am satisfied with the sources, broadness, image and all. I'm will be waiting for my review while I place on hold. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 07:44, 7 April 2024 (UTC)

Chronicles of the Happiest People on Earth
[edit]The first edition cover photograph looks likes it has a slightly different title: Chronicles of the Happiest People on Earth. Is this an international variation? If so, I suppose this should be mentioned in the article. Ackatsis (talk) 10:53, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
