It is interesting to note that, according to Wikipedia, throughout history, three attempts have been made to name a city after Christ (i.e., Christopolis), but that none of these attempts survive to this day. What could be the reason? It seems that the last attempt was made by my compatriots in 1822, in what was later to become the West African nation of Liberia. In our case, the capital city, Christopolis, was renamed in honor of U.S. President James Monroe (the City of Monrovia). My people preferred more to honor Monroe than Christ, it is clear. I would like to know more about what transpired at that time. Where were the members of the clergy and other people when the change of name was proposed? Were there no dissenting voices? Historians who have researched Liberia, are there any records, details of what transpired in Liberia during and several years after 1822, when the city was renamed?

One thing is certain: a city which follows the teachings and lifestyle of Christ would be a veritable haven in this poverty-stricken and morally depraved world. I would like to see a real City of Christ in action. It would have just laws and respect for human dignity, beauty one can only imagine, wealth and happiness for all, unparalleled human achievement. Perhaps this was the ideal that those who chose the name Christopolis aspired to. I appreciate people who aspire to greatness, no matter how far they may have to reach in order to attain it.
