Question re stepchildren

I'm puzzled by this statement: "They have three children and three stepchildren." How is this possible? I can see that one or both of them can have stepchildren, but they surely can't have the same stepchildren as is implied here? Or are the children belonging to one of the parents and stepchildren to the other? Deb (talk) 16:06, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
