Lower case...?

[edit]

Why is his name rendered in lower case? Proper nouns are capitalized. If Prince still went by that absurd symbol, would his article's title be rendered as such? Capitalize this man's name in English Wikipedia articles, because in English, proper nouns are capitalized. -69.47.186.226 02:22, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

His name is mink and apears in lower case on both his film and print credits. How should we resolve this. I understand your point about proper english however he has been credited as mink(lower case) since 1998. Taletiger (talk) 19:29, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Stop putting unsourced material back in the article. Find reliable sources. At the moment you're making this page look like it's edited by someone with a conflict of interest, and I'm sure that's not the case. BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 19:50, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There is no conflict of interest. Let's work together to make it correct. Is IMDB not a reliable source? Why should his bio not be in the article? Thanks Taletiger (talk) 19:59, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
IMDB is not a reliable source because it's user created content. His bio should be there, if it can be cited from reliable sources. User talk:Taletiger has welcome notices that will explain all of this and more to you. TBH this page is already being treated leniently in terms of the gigantic uncited works section, which includes a director videography of what appear to be largely non-notable artists.
Step 1 is to find three reliable, notable sources to establish basic notability. Then worry about the content of the article. BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 20:08, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Then by that process should'nt you put back the career section because that seems largely acurate from the IMDB career section. The web has multiple sources with his director credits and interview articles. Please also define non-notable artists is this artists without a wiki entry? Thank you for the notes above. Taletiger (talk) 20:20, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It only goes in if it's cited from a reliable source. It really, really is that simple. If the web has myriad sources those sources can be used as citations; go forth and seek. It wouldn't surprise me if there is something out there as he's directed a couple of actual genuine films even if it's just genre crap. But the information in the article didn't reflect that, especially lost under a lot of peacock language.
And yeah, that's broadly what I mean. It's not meant to be dismissive, it's just that artists tend to have followings and it doesn't exactly take a lot for said fans to put together a Wikipedia page, which suggests said artists are... niche. Nothing wrong with that but it means it's not really a strike favour of the notability of the subject, whereas if the directing credits were for Missy Elliot and Madonna there would likely be more sources out there. TBH the works section should probably be outright excised too unless it can be cited, especially as some of the roles on them may be non-notable - a random sampling of the linked articles doesn't see Morrison's involvement as notable enough for a mention on those videos' sections and comes across a bit "Fat Guy #2". Which could say more about the other articles and undervalued roles in music video production, but again makes this look like a non-neutral CV/resume type thing rather than a detached encyclopaedia article. Ok. If you do a simple google search you see his involvment with A Band Apart, Making the video (appearences), Mortal Kombat III, World Poker Tour as well as the artists he has worked with perhaps re wording the page to better fit wiki language makes sense. The information previously listed does seem accurate despite the flowery language. Thanks for clarifying the process. Taletiger (talk) 20:46, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, then write it in with the citations rather than just restoring the previous stuff. Once again, it really is that simple =) BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 20:50, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
