Reviewer: BritneyErotica (talk · contribs) 06:34, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. After some revisions, I've fixed the issues at hand here. Please tell me if I missed something, or of what could be improved.
Sincerely, Dontuseurrealname (talk) 22:59, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'd still like to see each of his tours cited inline. This should be fairly easy as I was able to find reliable enough sources for him announcing each one. This can exclude the Forajido Tour as it is linked to its own page. BritneyErotica (talk) 05:21, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I put some citations that references Nodal performing live (presumably during the tours). Finding sources on the Ahora and Ayayay! tours was surprisingly hard; my previous reference was www.concertarchives.org, which I've seen being used on some Wikipedia articles, but I tried to find some more reliable sources this time. I would be glad if you could link some better sources, if there are any of course.
Sincerely, Dontuseurrealname (talk) 01:46, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I can see you've tried to reference those first two tours. I also tried looking and came up short. Was the Ayayay! tour online only? Perhaps a primary source can be used such as an announcement on one of his social medias (preferably like a YouTube video or Tweet). I think worst-case scenario would be attempting to find an archived link (Archive.org) in reference to the tour(s) (as the current one is referenced as the name of the tour) or through concertarchives.org. As long as these citations are specific to the tours section it shouldn't fail the GA criteria. BritneyErotica (talk) 10:26, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The concertarchives.org source (here) lists some shows under "Ahora Tour 2019" or just "Ahora". I went onto his main social media, which is Facebook, and found these posts:
  • [1](Ahora Tour)
  • [2](Ayayay! Tour)
I haven't put these in the article as citations yet since I want your approval on them; please let me know if there's a better source that I'm missing (e. g. news article).
Sincerely, Dontuseurrealname (talk) 19:53, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'd use this link for the Ayayay! Tour and this one for the Ahora Tour especially if there is a rough consensus that these are used on other articles. Facebook is classified as an unreliable source even though in this case it would do the job quite well and so shouldn't be used. Since these citations are specific to just the tours section, and aren't classified as unreliable (or classified at all), I'd be content with them being used for that small section. BritneyErotica (talk) 05:03, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've placed the citations according to your recommendations. Let me know if that's it or if there's something else I have to fix, because some errors from the original version of the article might still be there.
Sincerely, Dontuseurrealname (talk) 23:06, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, just making sure you get the notification :)
Dontuseurrealname (talk) 22:55, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Life in Private Life doesn't need a capital (I know such a minor criticism).
Music critic Thom Jurek of Allmusic praised the album, referring to the mariachi instrumentals as "lush and elegant," further stating, "Nodal wrote seven of these 13 songs, but given his performances, he may as well have penned them all... in these songs and others, Nodal evokes traces of the great romantic singers like Vincente Fernandez, and Luis Miguel" Consider this adjustment (with respect to your appropriate inline citations) while also capitalising music in AllMusic and breaking up the quote:
"Thom Jurek, a music critic from AllMusic, had high praise for the album. He was particularly impressed by the mariachi instrumentals, describing them as "lush and elegant." Jurek went on to note that “"Nodal wrote seven of these 13 songs, but given his performances, he may as well have penned them all...”. Jurek also drew comparisons between Nodal and iconic romantic singers such as Vincente Fernandez and Luis Miguel. He observed that in both the songs he wrote and those he performed, Nodal managed to evoke traces of these vocalists.
Shortly after his break-up with Belinda, Nodal started a relationship with Argentine singer and rapper Cazzu, though their relationship wasn't revealed until 2023. Rumors circulated that Nodal had moved to Argentina after it was discovered that he had purchased a lot in Buenos Aires, which were later confirmed by Cazzu. In April 2023, she confirmed her pregnancy during a concert, which Nodal later revealed the sex to be female and said was due sometime in September. In June 2023, Nodal and Cazzu went to France for unknown reasons, starting online speculation of a proposal
Consider changing this entire paragraph up to something like this:
"Not long after ending his relationship with Belinda, Nodal began dating Cazzu, an Argentine singer and rapper. However, the couple chose to keep their relationship private until some time in 2023. During this period, there were widespread rumors suggesting that Nodal had relocated to Argentina. These speculations gained traction when it was found out that he had acquired a piece of land in Buenos Aires. Cazzu later confirmed these rumors to be true.
In April 2023, Cazzu announced her pregnancy while performing at a concert. Nodal subsequently disclosed that they were expecting a baby girl and that the due date was anticipated to be in September of the same year.
Nodal and Cazzu traveled to France in June 2023 for reasons that were not publicly disclosed. This led to a new flurry of online speculation, with many wondering if the trip was related to a possible marriage proposal.”
Further feedback
Just to reiterate with the references, most seem reliable enough and support the content. As stated in one of my replies, there is a dead link which should be changed for something better.
I would suggest going through your reference list and checking each one without an author to make sure you haven't missed any. I think you've seen some other feedback for this on my talk page recently so I'll give you some time.
You are entirely right about MonitorLATINO, where either archived versions of it should be used (as they change frequently), or in a more reliable publication referencing it (such as where it peaked in the charts).
Once the references have been fixed this should pass. BritneyErotica (talk) 15:49, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. Thanks a lot for all of the feedback. This was my first complete rewrite, and I evidently did a lot of errors while making it. I unfortunately cannot do most of the things here at least until Saturday. I'll fix some minor issues (like "AllMusic" instead of "Allmusic") right now.
Sincerely, Dontuseurrealname (talk) 12:01, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry too much I've written some feedback external from Wikipedia that I might "be bold" (See WP:BOLD) and do myself. This includes the fact that there are still sources that require authors. I'll happily monitor progress while I also try and make time. It's very close to passing and you did a good job for your first major rewrite. BritneyErotica (talk) 13:47, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. The school week (finally) ended, and I've gotten to working on fixing the references. I remember now that I intentionally left one of the references with a blank author space ([32]), since the author is listed as "Redacción People en Español". I assumed that this article wasn't created by someone named "Redacted", and perhaps it could be by an anonymous writer. Either way, I think this one should be left blank.
Also, thanks a lot for your closing comment. I really wanted another Good Article on regional Mexican music, as there's only 49 right now. Christian Nodal is a pretty famous guy, and I thought he might be worthy of one. I'll get to fixing those Monitor Latino chart positions soon, and fingers crossed this goes through.
Sincerely, Dontuseurrealname (talk) 20:59, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
After painfully correcting the dates, adding some references, and changing "publisher" to "website", I finally fixed the Monitor Latino issues. Tell me if there's more that I should add.
Sincerely, Dontuseurrealname (talk) 14:24, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So the issue with Monitor Latino is that the URL provided uses charts that update regularly and does not provide support to the claims made (e.g., a song in 2017 will not show on the link anymore as its 2023). This applies to references 4 to 10; 32.
However, I found a solution that may work. Using this Billboard link, under the category "Mexico Popular Airplay", it may support each claim made in the body of the text. For example, in what was mentioned "In June 2017, Nodal collaborated with Spanish singer David Bisbal on the single "Probablemente", which peaked at number two in Mexico" (Reference 6), "Probablemente" is mentioned and has information that could be used instead. You'd have to go through and find each relevant category within the Billboard website to find each song etc. to replace those links.
Speaking of the Billboard links, reference 46 and 47 are identical. However, I feel as if that they shouldn't be combined and instead distinguished based on the drop-down menu on the Billboard website (e.g., distinguishes Mexico Popular Airplay to Billboard Hot 100).
This has been done for references 70, 71 and 72 so that format will work well. Please ensure to not make a new reference if you're repeating one (such as 70) in earlier text.
If you have any questions/need clarifying let me know. BritneyErotica (talk) 12:35, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. I would like to clarify some things about the Monitor Latino references.
To state it frankly, Monitor Latino is a pain to work with, plain and simple. Like you mentioned, the default URL changes every week. Most charts have some sort of archive for this, but Monitor Latino does not. At least not built-in. However, the print form of the page does in fact include the specific date. This is also why chart positions 11-20 are visible, whereas on the default URL they are locked behind an account creation form.
Also, Mexico Popular Airplay is definitely a different chart than the Monitor Latino Top 20 General Mexican Songs chart. The latter is often seen as Mexico's "official" record chart (the truth is that Mexico has no real official record chart, unlike the United States, which really only has the Billboard Hot 100). For instance, "Probablemente" peaked at number two on the Top 20, but on the Mexico Popular Airplay, it peaked at number three. Perhaps the line stating that it peaked at number 2 "in Mexico" might cause some confusion, as I simply used that line as a way to not repeat myself saying "Monitor Latino chart(s)". If you believe that should be changed to something perhaps less ambiguous, then please state it in your reply. With that said, I will begin working on fixing those links.
Sincerely, Dontuseurrealname (talk) 22:49, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I did notice that the charting positions may be different but if it was me I'd use that source and change the actual text to reflect that. In other words I'd refer to the position with Billboard and the specific category as opposed to relying on where it charted from Monitor Latino as those links have been problematic.
I wasn't able to see any historic data from Monitor Latino that supported what was mentioned in the text, but perhaps some links from the site do have that data, in which case it would be fine to use if it's publicly available or archived.
I'd also say the specific category instead of just "in Mexico". BritneyErotica (talk) 05:26, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. I'll try to cut some time and address these one by one.
For the chart positions, Mexican charts have always been very problematic (most of the time, even worse than this). Monitor Latino is actually a good and relatively easy-to-use source compared to other Mexican charts, such as AMPROFON's. Some of the Billboard charts for Mexican music are a bit unclear as to where they are getting the data. Sometimes it's from Mexico, which would make it a Mexican song chart, but sometimes it's from the United States. Mexico Songs is an example of the former, and, as is likely already known, Hot Latin Songs is an example of the latter. Since it was unclear to me if charts like Regional Mexican Airplay where getting their chart data from Mexico itself, I just used Monitor Latino instead, as many other articles did as well. If you know that Regional Mexican Airplay is getting chart data from Mexico, please clarify so in a reply.
I assume that the "historic data" is referring to lines like this:

In January 2022, he released a remake of the single "Te Llore un Río" with Mexican rock band Maná, which became his eighth entry to top the Monitor Latino charts.

My source for this quote was the sources from the discography section, which in turn sources Monitor Latino. Eight of them cite their respective song having peaked at number one, and so that's where that information comes from. If you have pages you can link, please do so below.
I didn't specify the category as the category for Mexican songs is "Top 20 General Mexican Songs", which is quite a long line of text to repeat. I was thinking of instead putting something like "Top 20 Mexico", as that is also displayed on the chart's official page. I'll be available the rest of today and tomorrow for a reply. Dontuseurrealname (talk) 23:27, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure if you've changed the URLs to now reflect historic data (meaning published charts that aren't current) or I was somehow going to a URL that was from Monitor Latino but with only current charts, but those references I've mentioned (4-10) seem to be okay.
Number 33 is still the URL I was arriving at, where it doesn't reflect what was mentioned in the text (as the reference brings you to current "live" charts).
I've been quite busy but using Monitor Latino is fine as long as the data from that URL does reflect the text, which I've been concerned about (if you see reference 33 you'll see what I've talking about).
Please also remember (Now 47 and 48): "Speaking of the Billboard links, reference 46 and 47 are identical. However, I feel as if that they shouldn't be combined and instead distinguished based on the drop-down menu on the Billboard website (e.g., distinguishes Mexico Popular Airplay to Billboard Hot 100). This has been done for references 70, 71 and 72 so that format will work well. Please ensure to not make a new reference if you're repeating one (such as 70) in earlier text." This is not changing what is in the text, but rather the title used in the references to distinguish them. BritneyErotica (talk) 13:02, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. I'm currently in school while writing this, so I won't have much time for a reply. I fixed the reference you pointed out, and I believe there are still some others that need fixing. Also, if it isn't clear, I'm allowing you to make any edits you deem necessary. I've also added an MDY dates template to the top of the article, which should convert the DMY dates that Wikipedia automatically generates to the MDY dates I've been using for the rest of the article. However, the actual citation fields will still use DMY, it just won't show up as such in the article. Just a heads-up, especially if you edit in markup mode.
Sincerely, Dontuseurrealname (talk) 14:51, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes there are still some issues with the references which are all the same as what has been previously mentioned.
I want to try and clarify as much as possible that the recent MonitorLatino links you've added are structured like this: http://charts.monitorlatino.com/Login/Index?ReturnUrl=%2ftop20%2fMexico%2fGeneral
Other links which I'm not sure if you've provided (or if it was another editor) are formatted like this: http://charts.monitorlatino.com/top20/Print/Mexico/General/20170306
In the second link you can see historical data from 2017. In the first link it's just a homepage and whatever is current.
If you cannot find a MonitorLatino publication that's like the second link, then that is when I'd attempt to change the text and support it with whatever something like Billboard has said. This applies to references 32 and 33 which were retrieved recently.
I've been increasingly busy so I really can't go and find these myself but because of how close this article is to passing I'd rather it take a while on hold than rush it. BritneyErotica (talk) 16:19, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. Homework kept me from replying, and I'm currently writing this at school, so I'll make it short.
Truthfully, I'm not sure why some of the links are broken (that is, they lead to the Monitor Latino main page). It might have worked at some point, I'm not sure. All the correct links are in the Discography section, so I'll get that done. Those other links you mentioned you were unsure on who made them were all (or at least mostly) from me, so the broken links may be a remnant from the old version. I'll get this covered when I get home and on the weekends.
Sincerely, Dontuseurrealname (talk) 16:29, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've fixed the reference issues and added some new relevant information (new EP, his baby).

Rate Attribute Review Comment
1. Well-written:
1a. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct. Maintain consistency when referring to the position of his songs in charts. For example, it is not recommended to refer to a position as "number four" and then in another paragraph as "number 4". Ideally it would used in its letter form (four not 4).

"Nodal began his musical career at age 17" This should be reworded to be "at the age of 17".

"As of June 2023, the song is also currently Nodal's most streamed song on Spotify" Update to current month (August).

"In May 2022, Nodal released the extended play, Forajido, with" Comma after extended play is unnecessary.

"his grandfather Ramón" Should be "...El País, his grandfather, Abuelito Ramón,..."

"The song quickly became a success in Mexico and the United States, topping the Monitor Latino Top 20 General Mexican Songs chart and peaking at number four on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs, his highest-peaking entry on the chart." Run-on sentence. Consider separating them.

"The song peaked at number 60 on the made history as becoming the first regional Mexican song to enter the Billboard Hot 100 in the 63 years the chart had existed" This sentence doesn't make sense.

"The song as well peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs and at number 9 on the Billboard Global 200, Nodal's highest peaking entry on both charts and his first top-ten entry on the latter." The lead of this sentence should be reworded ("The song as well" is poorly written). It is also another run-on sentence.

"which became his 8 entry to top the Monitor Latino charts" His eighth entry?

"The EP consisted of six songs, including "Ya No Somos Ni Seremos" and "La Sinvergüenza", featuring regional Mexican banda group Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizárraga, which peaked at number 2 on the Monitor Latino charts and at 20 on the Mexico Songs chart." Run-on sentence.

"He as well possesses a tenor vocal range" Reowrd to "He also possesses..."

"Days later, Nodal would released the diss track "Girasol" aimed at Balvin" Rework to "Days after the Instagram posts, Nodal would release the diss track...".

"Nodal clarified that he was apparently at a difficult stage of his life" Remove "apparently" (See MOS:ACCUSED).

Universal Music lawsuit

Rework first sentence to: "In November 2021, a leaked letter from Universal Music Latin, Nodal's record label at the time, advised relevant parties against distributing Nodal's music."

Personal life

"in February of 2022" Remove "of".

"after it was revealed that he had purchased a lot" Change the word "revealed" to avoid repetition.

"a large number of tattoos on his arms" The word "large" may be subjective and it could be removed.

"Nodal also previously had several tattoos for his ex-girlfriend Belinda," "Also" is redundant.

Tours

I'd recommend individually citing these (excluding Forajido Tour) as they aren't mentioned in the main body of the article. Ensure these are reliable sources.

1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation. Perhaps changing "Controversies" to "Public image". "Controveries" is now generally avoided if possible.
2. Verifiable with no original research:
2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline.
2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose).
2c. it contains no original research.
2d. it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism. Copyvio highlights concern for quoted material in this article (specifically from Billboard). Please break up the quoted material in the "J Balvin controversy" section (and other sections throughout the article with excessive quoting).
3. Broad in its coverage:
3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic.
3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).
4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each. Some sections only mentioned positive acclaim to his song releases (and, in itself, you should ensure not to use terms like "acclaimed" when describing people or his work). I think for the most part this is okay, and overall is balanced by mentioning his public image.
5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute.
6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:
6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content.
6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions.
7. Overall assessment. Feedback has been adjusted.

Just a quick driveby comment: on Wikipedia, we use the external-punctuation style for quotes even in American English. Minor point, but the article is correct to use it. (Thanks for your great reviews so far, by the way.) Vaticidalprophet 06:53, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the clarification BritneyErotica (talk) 08:38, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Just before editing the article, I'd like to discuss one of your assessments. "Abuelito" means grandfather in Spanish, hence "Abuelito Ramón" is (more or less) "Grandpa Ramón". If you believe that the article should still be edited as you stated, then please reply. I'll start making corrections soon.
Sincerely, Dontuseurrealname (talk) 19:39, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So embarrassing! You're definitely right with just using Ramón. You'd think learning Spanish for years would stick. BritneyErotica (talk) 20:05, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
