Move Christian Democratic Center to Christian Democratic Centre

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived move proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was No Move. Also, this party is not from a country where British English is the native language, so as per Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#National_varieties_of_English, the dialect of the first contributor is to be used unless there's a considerable expansion of the article in another dialect.--Húsönd 14:55, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Christian Democratic CenterChristian Democratic Centre – The English spelling is more correct. Checco 23:01, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Survey - in support of the move

[edit]
  1. Support, as explained above. I wanted to change the title into Christian Democratic Centre also in order to make it coherent with the title of the article of CCD's successor party, the Union of Christian and Centre Democrats. I think it is logical to do so. --Checco 12:08, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Survey - in opposition to the move

[edit]
  1. Oppose centre is not more "correct" since it's not an English language based party. WP policy says in articles like this, to use the standard that the articles creator used. Just preferring a different spelling isn't good enough (see Talk:Pasteurization). TJ Spyke 02:55, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Oppose as stated above, policy is to stick with the standard the article was created with. Jimp 04:25, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Weak Oppose, but this is the sort of thing that should be left alone; no Usage Wars. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 21:18, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

[edit]

If someone could dig up evidence of how the Christian Democratic Centre used to translate their own name into English (supposing they ever did), I'd suggest we go with that. Jimp 02:18, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here CCD is translated in Christian Democratic Centre, but anyway I think it is better to use the English typo for an European party. --Checco 15:17, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This case

[edit]

I don't think this is just the usual case of British vs American English; in this case, we've got an article on the UDC which uses "centre", and a very much related article (this one) which should therefore use the same type of English. Wouldn't you agree? —Nightstallion (?) 10:05, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I definitely support Nightstallion's argument. --Checco 06:05, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
