Resignation date

[edit]

I see the date 30 January 2009 mentioned here and in other articles. Can we have a cite for that? No actual resignation date was mentioned in President Hogg's announcement to the Senate on 3 February, he just said he'd received Ellison's resignation. -- JackofOz (talk) 20:54, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's the date mentioned in Ellison's official parliamentary webpage. (The index page has been deleted, but if you access it through Google page the 'biography' page is still there, and has been updated to reflect his resignation. Rebecca (talk) 02:52, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reasons for resignation

[edit]

"Ellison announced he would be resigning, stating that he would like to spend more time with his family"

Now this is a bit of a cliche... although sometimes people do genuinely resign for such reasons, it is often a euphemism for something else! Was there any controversy about this? (Don't know anything about the man, so am making no assumptions)--MacRusgail (talk) 15:26, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not in this case. It was a pretty simple case of not wanting to hang around for another however many years in Opposition, after a long ministerial career. Frickeg (talk) 23:28, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Opposition to abortion

[edit]

I would like to write Chris Ellison voted against the abortion drug Ru486 in 2006. He said he would oppose the bill here.[[1]]
