Duarte's place of birth

[edit]

According to his profile at the University of Oregon official website Duarte was born in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Yes, some articles claim that he was born in Montreal. However, his university profile seems like the most reliable source. Presumably the university has his official documents, including most likely his birth certificate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Virgrod (talkcontribs) 00:01, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

According to the reference on the NBA site, he was born in Montreal but raised in the DR. I doubt the PR person in charge of Oregon's athletic association has access to his registration file. The student news at Oregon also says he was born in Montreal. [1] Ifnord (talk) 05:54, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple articles and videos suggest Duarte was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and is a dual citizen of Canada and Dominican Republic. Seen on Bar Down, TSN, NBA, and Cult MTL

The Bar Down link actually says he was born in the Dominican Republic. The Pacers media guide does, as well, so the NBA's own publications are inconsistent. Zagalejo (talk) 01:08, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t think it is inconsistent, I think the most reliable sources (the college bio and the Pacers media guide) say he was born in the Dominican Republic. Of the four sources listed above, only the TSN story claims he was born in Montreal. I tend to chalk that up to the general confusion at the time it was written and just an error. His Oregon bio USED to say he was born in Montreal when the article was created. But they have since changed it. To me the most reliable sources say Puerto Plata, DR. My suggestion is to use this for POB perhaps with a note around the discrepancies. Rikster2 (talk) 11:57, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

On the NBA website, it says he was born in Montreal, but raised in the Dominican. As he has a Dominican accent and spent the vast majority of his life there, it is likely assumed he was born there. [2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by NotKT11 (talkcontribs) 05:41, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why is that article assumed to be correct, while others aren’t? As said, the NBA’s own publications are inconsistent. Zagalejo (talk) 16:42, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Has Duarte himself ever made a clear statement on the matter? Otherwise, this article will never be stable. One person changes it to say Montreal; the next person changes it to say Puerto Plata. Zagalejo (talk) 14:41, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
