According to Fan, Germann and Gadda's study (Mechanistic Studies of Choline Oxidase with Betaine Aldehyde and Its Isosteric Analogue 3,3-Dimethylbutyraldehyde, Biochemistry, 1979), choline oxidase catalyzes a four electron oxidation of choline to glycine betaine via a two sequential FAD-dependent reaction in which bataine aldehyde is an intermediate, and is also capable of using bataine aldehyde as a substrate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Niubrad (talkcontribs) 21:02, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
