World Heritage missions

[edit]

Since only one (San José de Chiquitos) of the six world heritage mission settlements is situated in present day Chiquitos Province, the article should state this correctly. Furthermore since the WH site is called "Jesuit Missions of the Chiquitos", I suspect it refers to the Chiquitano/Chiquito people and not to the province. The picture in the present article shows the church in Concepción which is definitely not in Chiquitos province. Therefore the infobox "World Heritage site" should be removed from this article. I am currently working on an article about the world heritage site which should eventually be linked to. Questions, comments and participation on/in this article are very welcome. bamse (talk) 10:34, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just put up Jesuit Missions of the Chiquitos and therefore removed the WH-infobox from this article. After re-reading the article it appears to me, that it does not refer to the (modern) Chiquitos Province at all. I would suggest to move this article to either Chiquitania or Chiquitos region since it deals only with the historical "Chiquitos". Questions, comments, suggestions?bamse (talk) 17:27, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

word "Chiquitania" v. "Chiquitanía"

[edit]

The correct spelling - in all languages - for this region always has been and remains "Chiquitania" (without an accent on the final letter "i"). It is understandable how some may think the correct spelling requires an accented final letter "i", as several Spanish words end in "-ía" (e.g., "serranía", the name "María"). However, in Spanish, place names that end in these two letters never employ an accented letter "i" (e.g., "Iberia", "India", "Italia", and "Patagonia").

I realise that making this change across all articles (and their titles, as well as any associated files) will be difficult, but there really is no disputing that the word is always "Chiquitania". --Geoffrey Groesbeck (talk) 06:11, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
