Hoax?
[edit]Hi: Not quite sure what about this part of biographical data caused the article to be tagged as a hoax. Certainly Melvin Zdarsky is a character of Chip Zdarsky's universe [1] but nothing I've said about him is untrue. I can quote articles where Uncle Melvin is referenced, and also the Extremely Bad Advice column where baked goods were solicited.[2] Wiki leedetailed (talk) 20:19, 1 June 2009 (UTC) Wiki leedetailed
i also see that a red flag of concern came up because chip zdarsky provided a date of death for the comics database. i did not reproduce it here as he is not dead, and that is representative of his humour. all the articles i've referenced are current, and his column is active.Wiki leedetailed (talk) 20:31, 1 June 2009 (UTC)Wiki leedetailed
i have added more complete information on chip zdarsky in order to appease concerns regarding his notability. Wiki leedetailed (talk) 21:50, 1 June 2009 (UTC)Wiki leedetailed
Additional advice
[edit]If you happen to know if any of his collected works or volumes (Monster Cops, Prison Funnies) have been reviewed or received any published criticism or praise, that may add to notability required here. Even as it stands, it still seems to be bibliographical information drawn from his own sources. I know other editors have mentioned it in the deletion discussion, but you need some third party sources that meaningfully add to the page. For example, an article saying that he will be attending a convention may not meet that notability, but one that discusses his work, any insight into his creative process, or describes the reception of his artwork probably will. If he's a rather popular fixture in the Toronto comic scene, then surely there must be something on him. I did a search around online and came up short, but you may know of some published content (online or off) that could substantiate the notability here. Let me know if I can help.Luminum (talk) 02:46, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
This article does need considerable work, even now that it has passed notability. The article lacks sources or references for its claims and as one not familiar with the individual in question, I am confused by some of the statements. For example, when did he start working in the comics scene? "Ten years" is relative to the time in which someone reads the article. An actual year is preferred. Did he start in 1999?
The section about his "purported" uncle and the line following it is questionable. If he has an uncle, this should be categorized under a "Personal life" section and simply state that the individual has an uncle who is sometimes (?) mentioned during his articles or publications.
What does "RH Chip Zdarsky" mean? If this is in reference to the actual individual's interests, then it would also go under "Personal life" and should be rewritten to be as objective and factual as possible to the guidelines of the Wikipedia style guide. For example, if I am interpreting this correctly, I would write:
Zdarsky claims to have a strong appreciation for baked goods and often asks for his readers to submit recipes."
The statement about him being "endlessly creative" is subject to Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view and should be removed, unless it is drawn from actual praise and/or criticism by a reliable third party source.
More information about Zdarsky's life, especially concerning his entrance into the comic scene, his subsequent work and experiences, and especially any criticism or review by other sources would probably help this article out as well.
If you are the chief editor of this article or have substantial information to contribute, please review these suggestions as you edit. Thanks!Luminum (talk) 02:22, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
