Would it be satisfactory to say that it is Chapter 9 - Foreign Relations/Overview of Foreign Relations/China of the India Country Study? --[[User:OldakQuill|Oldak Quill]] 23:53, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Yes, that would be fine. Let's use APA style as specified at wikipedia:cite sources. --Jiang 00:17, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Pre-1949/1947/colonial era Sino-Indian relations

The part on history in this article would better be expanded to cover the older times. China and India has a long history of contact, predating the establishment of the modern PRC and the independence of modern India from the UK. — Instantnood 21:38, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Expanded somewhat on some of the more notable wars.--Yuje 01:48, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Removed section of article

I have removed the section "2009 Chinese strategist report suggesting India's disintegration" as, for a minor event, it does not require as much coverage as has been given, in addition to the fact that the editor seems to have a Conflict of Interest as indicated by their user page. --RaviC (talk) 20:14, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

The comparison chart says that chinas gdp (ppp) is US$25.299 trillion. Surely this can't be right? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.48.53.20 (talk) 02:22, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

Incursion

I am not opposed to a mention of the incursion. I simply removed it because I found evidence to suggest this happens regularly and that this event was nothing special against the others and was given undue weight in the article. It contained factually incorrect information and failed to outline a neutral point of view. For example the Chinese deny the allegation and any balanced encyclopedia should have recognized that. Secondly the air force and the navy have not been mentioned in any sources I found. I highly doubt the navy was involved msince Ladakh is land locked and in the mountains north of India putting it several hundreds of miles from thr nearest water access point. It talks about a single troop encamped. According to The Times of India these "incursions" happen all the time the last being in 2008. India itself has described this as a localized affair. Considering the rest of the article lacks bout treaties and major events such as war I don't see the justification or the reliable sources not suggest this was the largest incursion in 20 years or that it has the same balance as international treaties and wars. Wikipedia is not a news service for every little event or battle. Mkdwtalk 18:46, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

I strongly suggest talking about it on the talk page. Not doing so will eventually be labelled an edit war and actions taken by admins. I think the neutrality and factual accuracy of the incident is questionable. All the sources are from India and China has seemingly denied any wrong doing. While the wording of infringed and incursion is okay, the context makes it appear as 'fact' when its a disputed territorial claim. I'm also concerned that this infringes on WP:NOTNEWS as it's not making major international headlines outside China and India. Considering the incident is only two weeks old, it does not meet WP:LASTING. Mkdwtalk 21:18, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
The following comments from Nightbat were on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject China page. I've copied them here (where they more properly belong) in the hope of helping to get the conversation going.--Wikimedes (talk) 17:15, 3 May 2013 (UTC)
I am the editor that created the 2013 Daulat Beg Oldi Incident. In my opinion I have provided numerous reliable sources from mainstream media that show that the article is notable and neutral. According to the following articles from major publications - DNA India article, Indian Express article, Deccan Herald article, Economic Times article the matter is not a minor incident. Especially see this Firstpost.com article that clearly states that this is the first time since 1986 that Chinese troops have infiltrated into Indian territory and stayed put. Can provide numerous more examples from mainstream media. I therefore feel, with due respect to Mkdw, that (s)he is unduly flagging the article as "disputed", "non-notable", etc. despite ample evidence to the contrary. Would therefore seek another opinion on the matter. Danke. Nightbattalk —Preceding undated comment added 11:04, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

Doklam Standoff Possible Vandalism Going On

This page needs to be seriously watched for unsourced and boisterous edits. Administrator please pay attention. Wikipedia is supposed to be banned in China, so if their IPs are being used to edit, most likely they are CPC troll party.

User:Eipviongll's last many edits in the section are all unsourced/poorly sourced and should be reverted to last edit by 106.193.193.70.

So are edits by User:Sgsg. This page needs to be immediately reverted to last edit by 106.193.193.70 and should then be locked for edit wars. -- — Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.79.142.13 (talkcontribs)

No kidding (above comments.) Incorporating some from Doklam and Gipmochi, I tried to salvage as much as I could in an NPOV fashion. Still some random authors' musings left in that probably violate WP:UNDUE DLinth (talk) 20:44, 28 July 2017 (UTC)

Quotes

Sardar Patel quote

I am adding this quote because Sardar Patel (credited with the integration of India and then Home Minister) talked of a two front war in 1950! The quote also references Tibet as well as China as a potential enemy... the same reasoning was also used today in 2020 that India's attitude is not home-made.

Their last telegrame to us is an act of gross discourtesy not only in the summary way it disposes of our protest against the entry of Chinese forces into Tibet but also in the wild insinuation that our attitude is determined by foreign influences. It looks as though it is not a friend speaking in that language but a potential enemy [...] for the first time, after centuries, India’s defence has to concentrate itself on two fronts simultaneously. [...] In our calculations we shall now have to reckon with communist China in the north and in the north-east, a communist China which has definite ambitions and aims and which does not, in any way, seem friendly disposed towards us.
—Excerpt from Home Minister Sardar Patel's letter to Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, November 7, 1950[1]

Sri Aurobindo/ John F. Kennedy quote

I have added this because the speakers are notable and it links together so many things, non-alignment, China US India (hence placed in this particular section of triangular relations):

"The gesture that can save is to take a firm line with China, denounce openly her nefarious intentions, stand without reservations by the USA [...] Militarily, China is almost ten times as strong as we are, but India as the spearhead of an American defence of democracy can easily halt Mao’s mechanised millions."
Sri Aurobindo in November 11, 1950.
On 28 March 1963, Sudhir Ghosh recorded the President of the United States John F Kennedy's reaction on reading Sri Aurobindo's words, "One great Indian, Nehru, showed you the path of non-alignment between China and America, and another great Indian Aurobindo, showed you another way of survival. The choice is up to the people of India." Earlier in the meeting Ghosh recorded Kennedy's reaction to a letter from Nehru, "He indignantly said that only a few months earlier when Mr Nehru was overwhelmed by the power of Communist China he made desperate appeal to him for air protection, and non-alignment or no non-alignment, the President had to respond. He added sarcastically that Mr Nehru's conversion lasted only a few days."[1]

This entry may need to be shortened as well as summarised. DTM (talk) 17:51, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Maybe the JFK reaction could be shifted to India and the Non-Aligned Movement DTM (talk) 17:55, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Quote from China

Keeping WP:BALANCE in mind, a box quote from China's perspective would be needed. DTM (talk) 17:51, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Lead paragraph removed

After looking at the recent to-and-fro, I have removed the following paragraph from the lead:

Also a video which has emerged later, purports to show that Chinese hurled stones at the Indian soldiers.[1] India reported a loss of 20 soldiers while China officially said that only four soldiers had died. The media reports were that a minimum of 30-40 casualties were there on the Chinese side too. This has been a major escalation since 1962 when the two armies clashed.[2]
