[edit]I think his contract was not renewed for reasons other than just this book. He did plead guilty to something involving sexual relations with students.
POV
[edit]This article sounds like an overwhelmingly positive book review.Sophy's Duckling 19:23, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
The phrase "post-sentence" is in accurate. Lester Ballad is accused and jailed but not convicted and not sentenced for the rape. Also, it is misleading to make a great deal of the rape accusation as a plot point.--Mstarli 04:34, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit]When is this book meant to be set? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.106.107.147 (talk) 16:26, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
The article mentions this took place in the 1960's, but having just finished the book, I was led to believe it occurred in the 1930's because one character is arrested for selling whiskey, leading me to believe it's set during prohibition. The book never outright says a date. Anyone have any clearer insight? 70.176.183.89 (talk) 07:13, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
- If Ballard's grandfather was a Whitecap in the 1890s, that also suggests that the 1960s is too late. 1930s seems more likely. MATH1977 (talk) 07:37, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
Sevier County is a dry county, which may account for that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.44.232.101 (talk) 21:51, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

Plot Summary
[edit]The plot summary seems a bit broad-strokes, like a dustcover blurb. I'll try to edit in a more detailed summary soon. Zazafiend2004 (talk) 14:34, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
