Assassination attempt controversy

[edit]

An editor User:Magnolia677 is edit warring, repeatedly removing content that is certainly noteworthy. Salman Rushdie is an internationally well-known writer. An attempt was made on his life on the morning of August 12, 2022 at a Chautauqua Institution event. The editor doing the deleting needs to do a better job in arguing that this is not noteworthy. Of course this does not reflect on the town. However, many articles on locales do have parts of their articles addressing violent or otherwise controversial events or individuals.Dogru144 (talk) 19:51, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Dogru144: Actually, two editors removed this, myself and User:MattSucci. Please note that Wikipedia is not a newspaper, and this attack had nothing to do with Chautauqua, except that it happened there. Yes, JFK is on the Dallas article, and MLK is on Memphis. This isn't the same. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:45, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In my opinion, the assassination attempt should be on the article, but only as a one-line mention that merely links to the actual article about the assassination attempt but doesn't go into any detail. 1779Days (talk) 05:15, 15 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@1779Days: Why do you feel this should be included? Do you feel this event has "shaped the community", per WP:USCITIES#History? In what way is this not just a news story, per WP:NOTNEWS? Magnolia677 (talk) 11:06, 15 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
