Type species

[edit]

@Quetzal1964: if the genus was erected by J. Becquaert in 1938, then there must be a type species described by him in 1938. I assume it must be one of the transferred species Chartergellus frontalis or C. zonatus. It's often helpful to add the type species to the taxobox or indicate it in the list of species. @Peter coxhead: Difficult to decipher, the type is named as Vespa frontalis Fabricius, 1804 but according to Carpenter's Tentative Checklist of the Polistine Tribe Epiponini this should be called Chartergellus amazonicus but there is a Chartergellus frontalis in the species list and the name is cited as a synonym for other species in that paper.Quetzal1964 20:36, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
@Quetzal1964: since the species name frontalis has precedence over amazonicus (if the dates given in the article are correct), then if C. frontalis and C. amazonicus are synonymous, the correct name must be Chartergellus frontalis. It seems that the taxonomy is confused. Peter coxhead (talk) 10:30, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
