The charter of Kortenberg and a row of following charters are of importance for people worldwide interested in the history and development of civil- and political rights in Europe. Recent Belgian and Dutch historic research show that many principles known now as such, have been formulated ages before the French revolution in Europe. The charters of the Duchy of Brabant do contain such 'formulas' and institutions, as do the many charters of landlords elsewhere, giving rights and freedoms to citizens, poor and rich, (burgers) living on their territory in exchange for duties like paying taxes or to accept a new ruler as successor for a ruler that passed away. All within the framework of feudal contracts.
The article now is to my opinion partly missing a neutral pov and it is in need of corrections by native english-speakers. There must be more knowledge 'out there', hopefully some people do notice this message. VanArtevelde (talk) 20:13, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
