[edit]was poulett his legal middle name? me thinks not because that was a nickname and means 'chicken' in french.
This makes no sense: "Charles Poulett Thomson, 1st Baron Sydenham, PC (Waverley Abbey September 13, 1799 – September 19, 1841 Kingston) was the first Governor of the united Province of Canada." ...then... "Sydenham succeeded Lord Durham as Governor of Canada in 1839." Help?

- The phrasing might be confusing. Sydenham was successor to Durham as Governor General of British North America (and therefore the two Canadas) in 1839. During his mandate, he had the Parliament of Upper Canada and the Special Council of Lower Canada vote for the legislative union of the two provinces into a single united Province of Canada in 1840. Sydenham then became the first Governor of this newly re-united Province of Canada when the constitution entered into force in 1841. -- Mathieugp (talk) 17:45, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
