World War 2 service
[edit]"Marriott was an anti-aircraft gunner in the Home Guard in World War II." I wonder if he started in the Home Guard and then enlisted in the regular army later on, as anti-aircraft gunnery doesn't sound like the sort of role that would be entrusted to the Home Guard, and the role isn't mentioned in Wikipedia's Home Guard article as one that they carried out. - Everything seems to say the same thing - I imagine it comes from his Widen obit. Fwiw, a google for home guard anti-aircraft brings up plenty of hits to suggest that the did indeed man AA batteries after 1941 - in particular, a source from UWE confirms this.
