Can we all get one thing straight on Bobby Swindells - he had NOTHING to do with Chanel College in 1958. Bobby arrived on the scene at the very start of 1962. He dropped into Chanel (which was still at Bell Park at that time - it did not move out to Lovely Banks until 18 months after that (JULY 1963)). He asked the Rector about employment at Chanel and was promptly taken on as a teacher. My authority for all of this is 'The First five Years' Page 52 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kingteesdale (talkcontribs) 11:56, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My recollection is that John Hosie was rector in 1962, and Stan Hosie became rector when John went on to other duties in the order. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Crazychristina (talkcontribs) 09:47, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No - Stan Hosie was appointed Rector at the start in 1958. He held that position until the end of 1962. His brother John (also a Marist Priest) joined the Chanel staff at the start of 1962. John had a reputation as a very good History teacher. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.45.192.89 (talk) 04:36, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Every year '62 - '67(?) a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta was performed, so arts not totally neglected. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.217.195.45 (talk) 13:04, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There were interschool sporting competitions with Geelong Grammar and Geelong College - athletics and swimming, probably also football. Also annual formal ball for senior students. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.217.195.45 (talk) 13:14, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Chanel College as a boarding school was a milestone in the development of secondary education in Victoria. It holds equivalent importance as Summerhill in UK, and for similar reasons. The absence of public comment about the school is mystifying. A contact point is chanelcollegeoldboys@gmail.com

== Chanel compared to Summerhill ==

There might be some similarities. For example the SRC (but many schools have an SRC). Quite frankly at Chanel I found most of the SRC class reps for my class both useless and incompetent as leaders and innovators.

A better example would be the magazine Champion which was produced and edited by the students. It was a publication that did not back away from contraversy. Another example would have to be the science club and even the Captain and vice Captain of the First XVIII were expected to show leadership and initiative.

But unlike Summerhill in the UK (not to be confused with Summerhill in Eireland) Chanel College had no shortage of rules and regulations and a discipline Master as well!

(I was at Chanel form 1967 to 1970 inclusive.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kingteesdale (talkcontribs) 12:14, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
