Chamar or Dalit

[edit]

@Ashok tatawat: Please could you explain why you changed "Chamar" to "Dalit" in this edit.

You also changed "Chamars" to "Dalit" in another edit, but I have reverted this because it was a quotation from a cited source which said: "The Great Chamars of Dhadkuli Welcome You".-- Toddy1 (talk) 13:07, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Toddy1: It is my understanding that "Chamar" is today a pejorative term. When in a quotation it should of course not be changed, but unless there's a very clear tendency for recent reliable sources to use it in place of "Dalit", we should be using the latter term in our prose. I do not see how edits like this and this are relevant to an English-language article on Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan.-- Toddy1 (talk) 18:36, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 9 February 2022

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Not moved. The nomination rationale is not in line with naming policy, and Amakuru has raised a credible WP:COMMONNAME concern which has not been addressed. No prejudice against renomination if new evidence of usage in reliable sources is presented. (non-admin closure) Colin M (talk) 17:29, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Chandrashekhar Azad RavanChandrashekhar (activist) – officially his name is just Chandrashekhar according to his official election affidavit[1] 2409:4063:6C85:81B1:4430:82D1:7A47:5DA6 (talk) 05:28, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Contesting. Looking at the article's sources, I don't think there's enough evidence that he just goes by a mononym, and the present titles also satisfies WP:NATURALDIS. The common name is probably actually "Chandrashekhar Azad" or "Chandra Shekhar Azad" (possibly with Aazad instead), but we have to decide how to disambiguate with the revolutionary Chandra Shekhar Azad.  — Amakuru (talk) 11:43, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Activism section content

[edit]

Looks like some sock puppet activity on this page. Here goes "Azad has established himself as Dalit icon[11] and he is known for his style. "Azad does something more: his style is ostentatious. It rejects docility, mimimalism and discretion. It is not quietly elegant, but emphatically flamboyant. It flaunts Raybans alongside homespun, replaces hipster beards with the twirled 'tache. It is azadi with swag."[11]"

Propose deletion of this entire sentence and replace with Azad has pursued activism for Dalit causes through schools for Dalit community run by his outfit Bhim army. He promotes the assertion of Dalit identity through his body language and persona. [1] Amitized (talk) 06:15, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In description, politician added

[edit]

As he established Azad Samaj Party: Kanshiram, politician should be added in descriptions also. LampVimmW (talk) 06:25, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

He Removed moniker "Ravan" from his name

[edit]

In a move aimed at addressing religious sentiments and enhancing the political parties view, its chief Chandrashekhar Azad has officially dropped the moniker 'Ravan' from his name. This decision, made around five years ago, reflects a strategic effort to cultivate a more inclusive and politically resonant identity. Despite this noteworthy change, it is interesting to observe that there have been no corresponding edits made to the Wikipedia article detailing the leader's profile, raising questions about the extent of public awareness surrounding this decision.

Some popular news article references:

indiatimes.com: Bhim Army chief drops 'Ravan' from his name

indiatoday.in: Don't want to give political benefit to others: Chandra Shekhar Aazad on why he dropped 'Ravan' from name

Also mentioned in:

indianexpress and indiatoday consecutive articles.

Here is a video interview also (Subtitle English (United States)).

Renamed from "Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan" to "Chandrashekhar Azad (Bhim Army Chief)"

[edit]

As per official statement it must be renamed, so it was done. More citations are welcome. "(Bhim Army Chief)" was added forcefully for disambiguation between Chandra Shekhar Azad and Chandrashekhar Azad. LampVimmW (talk) 10:24, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Post "Bhim Army Chief" auto distinguish him from other similar names

[edit]

When using the title "Bhim Army Chief," no additional distinguishing template is necessary. So I removed the tamplate. More contributions are welcome. LampVimmW (talk) 06:38, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Chandrashekhar Azad (Bhim Army Chief)Chandrashekhar Azad (politician) – (Bhim Army Chief) isn't an appropriate disambiguator. It should be much more concise, hence "(politician)". I did move the article to that title, but noticed it had previously been moved, so I'm starting this RM. LilianaUwU (talk / contributions) 09:30, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think just move it to Chandrasekhar Azad and add a distinguish template at the top of both this page and Chandra Shekhar Azad. To distinguish the two since the spellings have a slight differences, nothing else is needed. MrMkG (talk) 05:52, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Chandrashekhar Azad is a WP:COMMONNAME and cannot be used for this politician. This is a name of a renowned Indian freedom fighter. zoglophie•talk• 08:48, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No. Chandra Shekhar Azad is the common name for the freedom fighter. MrMkG (talk) 22:49, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. I think Chandrashekhar Azad (politician) will be more relevant than Chandrashekhar Azad (Bhim Army Chief) although every politician name we use (politician) to make unique. not its Party or organization name. Eaglespirit (talk) 06:43, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
