List of cards - Is it possible to list all the chance cards in the original version, the most recent version, and the changes made along the way. The way this page reads, it is impossible to figure out what the cards are, or what they were. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.212.89.240 (talk) 19:30, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Malta Cards

[edit]

I think that at this time, the addition of the Malta cards is unhelpful and cluttering to the page since the average user/reader is not interested in that variation and I believe it does not convy the point that the article is trying to make about english language Monopoly editions. Just my opinion that they should be removed at this point in time, but didn't want to do so right away. I wanted to see if there was a consensus on this first. If no one says otherwise I will go ahead and remove them in about a week or two. Chicagotrains (talk) 22:39, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Community Chest cards

[edit]

I think it would be interesting if a note were made of the background behind Community Chest cards and how they were named after the service organizations of the same name. Do any historians of the game know anything about this? --Sephiroth9611 (talk) 03:24, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Revision to Cards with 2008 Version of the Game

[edit]

In 2008, Hasbro began publishing an update to the classic Monopoly game (#9) where the Chance & Community Chest cards had new graphics, new color backs, and revised text in some cases. Can someone update this page to reflect those changes? Tostie14 (talk) 21:37, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lists of cards

[edit]

This article is weird in that it has two big sections devoted to changes in the cards, but no actual list of either the original cards or the current cards. 86.181.170.34 (talk) 02:00, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No "your houses and hotels are burning" card?

[edit]

I quickly looked over some card listings but nowhere I could find the most dreaded card from the Norwegian editions - the one that says (loosely recited from memory) "Your houses and hotels are burning. If you have insurance you can return that card to the deck and the buildings remains on the board. Otherwise you have to return all your buildings to the bank or pay the full purchase price for replacements". There's also a "Fire insurance" card where you pay ($25 I think) and then keep the card.

I suppose it's intended as a balancing mechanic by adding a level of risk (particularly to the leading players), but in reality it's only a threat for a short period during the game - typically right after most of the properties has been traded and you've sunk most of your cash into houses. If you draw it earlier you often has few or no houses so it doesn't incur any significant costs, while late in the game you usually has more than enough cash to easily cover it.

These cards has been present in every (Norwegian) version I've played, also I've never seen an edition with the dedicated "Community Chest" squares and cards. They're all marked "Chance" (usually "Prøv - ? - lykken" / "Try your luck" on the squares and "Sjanse - ? - kort" / "Chance card" on the cards - both with large question marks) and there's only a single deck of cards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.166.246.73 (talk) 00:12, 22 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
