Doubled article
[edit]I propose that this article be merged with the article on Chain boat, since it says the exact same thing as this does, only with a lot more detail and many more pictures. I have no idea how to do that or even to flag it, but it's just silly to have a little stub article like this when a real article already exists. Seems as though people would check that before creating an article!.45Colt 09:29, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- Agreed. I've tagged both articles. Give it a while to allow comments, then see about a merge. Andy Dingley (talk) 11:01, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- Don't merge. If you look at the German Wiki article it is very comprehensive and doesn't overlap significantly with chain boat. My plan is to develop this one by translating it from there. Hope that helps. --Bermicourt (talk) 13:20, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- The goal is to make articles that best fit the scope of distinct topics. Whether we source this from de:WP translated translated or elsewhere doesn't change that. Only if both articles grew to the German size and a size-based split becomes necessary is there any point in splitting. We're nowhere near that yet. If we get to that point, we can re-split easily enough. Andy Dingley (talk) 13:55, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- I think what I'm saying is that I'm prepared to translate the German article in the near future, so it will be the same size... --Bermicourt (talk) 17:44, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

- Okay, so I've now completed the draft translation of the article; I just need to proof-read it. So if we are now happy that it no longer needs to be merged, I'd like to run it for a DYK over the weekend. Cheers. --Bermicourt (talk) 21:36, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
- Don't merge. You have done a good job, Bermicourt, on this subject and both articles are now complementary and better differentiated. Both are capable of substantial further expansion - at present they are rather Germany-centric, reflecting the articles' origin - particularly from French sources. I will try to help with that. Davidships (talk) 20:25, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
- As this article has been expanded nearly 20 times since the merge proposal and is now a full article in its own right, I have removed the merge tags. --Bermicourt (talk) 18:11, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
- Bermicourt, have you considered expanding Chain boat navigation#Neckar with material from w:de:Kettenschifffahrt auf dem Neckar (recent featured article)? WhatamIdoing (talk) 04:47, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
- Oh Mensch! That's some task! I'll put it on my radar, but can't promise anything soon! Thanks, though. --Bermicourt (talk) 20:18, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
