Old talk
[edit]This is decidedly a stub, but the border town is worthy of mention. I was looking for pictures and more information, mindful of the town from having visited briefly last summer, and disappointed to find that there is no article on it. Hopefully we'll eventually get it fleshed out. --JT 07:42, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
Category? Formatting?
[edit]I'm not sure if I've added categories propertly... nor do I feel qualified on the Wiki-formatting stuff. Can one of you expert admin types help with this? THANKS!
BF2142
[edit]Not sure if it's this town specifically, but one of BF2142's maps is Cerbère Landing. Cctoide 12:52, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
French wikipedia
[edit]I was surprised to find that there was no article on Cerbère until a week ago. French Wikipedia already has a good article on Cerbère (see: here) which would be worth translating - I'm willing to have a go if people think it worth doing, rather than going at everything from scratch.
Incidentally, the Spanish town of Portbou just over the border from Cerbère has a small article which might also benefit from expansion from the French Wikipedia. Emeraude 14:06, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
OK - translated the French version and put it here, with appropriate links. Emeraude 19:01, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Merci beaucoups. Il y a des images? C'est tres jolie la bas! --JT 10:43, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
BF2142
[edit]I believe it is as there appears to be no other town in Europe of such importance with the same name. The fact of the matter is BF2142 is based soley in the Europe and some parts of Africa. I think its worth a mention, merely in a trivia sort of way —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.25.106.209 (talk) 10:03, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Is the French or Catalan name the COMMONNAME?
[edit]This article has been moved from its French name to its Catalan name. Per WP:COMMONNAME, I would guess that the French name of a commune in France would take precedence over a Catalan name, unless there is convincing evidence that the Catalan name is more commonly used in English-speaking reliable sources. Tomas e (talk) 13:16, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- This move is absolute bollocks and politically motivated. The common name and official name is Cerbère; North Catalonia does not exist as a legal entity outside the imagination of a small group of wishful thinkers. See French Wikipedia and Spanish Wikipedia. Change this back. Emeraude (talk) 11:20, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
- I think the addittion I've made to the Name section in the Cervera article will soothe your worries: Cervera is mentioned in French legal texts (as a matter of fact, in French treaties dealing with the precise borders with Spain, no less). For future reference I would appreciate if people refrained from using expressions such as bollocks or wishful thinkers, and kept a civil manner throughout.
- Northern Catalonia also has a legal basis: in the Charte en faveur du Catalan, the Conseil Général des Pyrénées-Orientales (no less, again) puts Northern Catalonia on an equal footing to Pyrénées-Orientales:
- La langue catalane, née il y a plus de mille ans, constitue un des piliers de notre identité, du patrimoine et de la richesse du département des Pyrénées-Orientales (Catalunya Nord)[1].
- This is a legal measure, duly approved by the representatives of Northern Catalonia's people, and not a bunch of wishful thinkers.
- Que tingeu un molt bon vespre,

- "Conseil Général des Pyrénées-Orientales" - where? Pyrénées-Orientales! You said it. The fact remans that both the common name and official name is Cerbère, that French is still the official language and that in the English speaking world (and this is the English speaking Wikipedia) "Cerbère" is correct.
