Section on Advantages of Railway Electrification contravenes WP:ICW

[edit]

The section contains information which is not related to the article (about an organisation in charge of railway electrification over Indian Railways). Information provided seems to promote 'railway electrification', which contravene both the WP:ICW and the WP:NPOV. Most of the trains in India run on electric traction. And most of the electricity is produced with fossil fuels (whether coal, diesel oil or naphtha). So the section misses its point. It does not matter if electricity is produced on-board the train or in a power plant far from the train. Also, the EMUs stop faster as they are equipped with electro-pneumatic brakes, and not due to any electrification. Hauling heavier or longer trains is a function of the hauling capacity of the locomotives, and not due to 'electrification'. I would like to request deletion of the section. Thanks. --Tinpisa (talk) 16:14, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Central Organization for Railway ElectrificationRailway electrification in India – to match other countries in Category:Railway electrification by country. Biscuittin (talk) 14:48, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose, at this time - they are two separate (though closely related) subjects, one being a general transport concept and the other being an organisation. Although we do tend to elide the two on many other countries' rail articles on wikipedia ("Rail Transport in X" often redirects to "XRailBiz" or vice versa), I don't think a move would be helpful in this case as the article already starts with substantial coverage of the organisation before going on to discuss technical details of electrification. It might be better to split the article. bobrayner (talk) 08:16, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Electric Rolling Stock

[edit]

I think the 6,000 hp locomotives mentioned in this section are probably Indian locomotive class WAP-7 and Indian locomotive class WAG-9. Can anyone confirm this? Biscuittin (talk) 19:53, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

When founded

[edit]

The infobox says that the organisation was founded on 19 February 1961, but "Home page", Central Organisation for Railway Electrification, Ministry of Railways, Government of India, retrieved 24 May 2021 says: "In recent years, the Central Organization for Railway Electrification (CORE) has contributed the majority of total electrified sections of Indian Railway. Set up in 1979 under the Ministry of Railways with the prime objective of electrification of railway tracks over the Indian Railways..."

So what exactly was founded on 19 February 1961?-- Toddy1 (talk) 08:32, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
