Modest fuzzyness

[edit]

And want to be sure references are to the current dam -- wasn't what is now Faraday once called Cazadero, e.g., "The original Cazadero Dam was destroyed by a massive flood in 1965 and reconstructed as Faraday Dam" in Estacada, Oregon?

Thanks for starting this article--it's an interesting topic (the rail line, the "streetcar suburb", etc.). Yours is a good question--I can't tell if they are differently named dams in the same spot or ??? I believe the Estacada article isn't referenced? So is the statement in that article accurate? Who owns the dams on the Clackamas now? Portland General Electric? Katr67 (talk) 16:18, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(Answering my own question). I believe that from what I read, the Faraday powerhouse is the same as the Cazadero powerhouse. PGE: [1] doesn't list a current project named Cazadero. Do the coords in GNIS for Faraday Dam match those of Cazadero Dam? Katr67 (talk) 16:22, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like Cazadero is the former, and Faraday the current dam: [2]. Katr67 (talk) 16:26, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed the info in the Estacada article. Should Faraday Dam be a separate article, or should it redirect to this article for now? Katr67 (talk) 16:40, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

1964 or 1965?

[edit]

I believe the "Christmas Flood" of 1964 is the same one that destroyed the dam in 1965. Unless there was another massive flood in the winter of 1965/1966? [3] [4] So the flood happened in December 1964, but maybe they didn't know the dam was destroyed until 1965? Katr67 (talk) 16:52, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Current Cazadero dam?

[edit]

What about the current Cazadero Dam, between Faraday & North Fork?

dino (talk) 01:39, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think there is one. See this link: [5]. There is the Faraday power house, then the Faraday Dam and then the North Fork Dam. Does that make sense? With River Mill Dam the powerhouse and dam are in the same place, but with Faraday they are separate. I think Google maps (and GNIS!) are a little mixed up on this one. It seems like PGE is the best source for this info. Do you have other sources? Katr67 (talk) 10:01, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Current Cazadero dam, redux?

[edit]

So that large thing in the Clackamas between Faraday Lake & North Fork is Faraday Dam? Funny, when I was a kid in Estacada we called it Cazadero. And the diversionary dam at Faraday Lake is Faraday Powerhouse? See this link: you can see Faraday, and upstream North Fork. I recall walking "Kelly Road" from Faraday to the edge of Cazadero.

Just want to mkae sure we know what's going on here.
