Yes, if the colder weather sets in inside your house.--137.138.5.218 (talk) 09:44, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There is nothing stated here about the size of the fleas! are they noticably visible? Could your cat have them and you'd never even see a flea? do they live in the ears or in the fur? Very undetailed page, and this is supposed to be an encyclopedia????? Lets go writers, add some information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.108.114.107 (talk) 18:50, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is a image entitled "Flea larva showing red ingested blood", but flea larva do not suck blood? Or is this blood taken from consuming adult flea faeces containing blood? GBM (talk) 23:14, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Overview

[edit]

The overview has a reference which contradicts the information given in the overview. An examples is that the reference says cat fleas can live on humans, the overview says they cannot.

Moreover, Footnote 1 is contradictory. It uses the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station article in support of the notion that "a population of cat fleas cannot be sustained by [humans]." However, the article describes an experiment whereby these fleas were able to reproduce after feeding solely on human blood. 98.235.73.57 (talk) 04:01, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Starting to assess what needs to be done to rewrite this article. Going to delete some of the references, add some more general information, and find a few new references. Since Wikipedia is such a common place for people to start finding information when dealing with a problem, it would be good to have a few more links to authoritative sites. 70.70.16.58 (talk) 13:50, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Do cat fleas actually live on dogs?

[edit]

Please help me here...my roommate has a dog and a cat..there are no fleas on either animal. But,the vet says that the dog has a flea alergy. They both go outside..my roommate says that the fleas are cat fleas and that they do live on dogs.I say that they are probally bites from cat fleas from the yard but the cat fleas dont live on the dogs.Is there an answer for this question? Are the fleas bitting the dog and then leaving her body because she is a dog? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.142.175.22 (talk) 17:28, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

identifying difference between cat & dog flea

[edit]

On the page about cat fleas there is a nice image of a flea ;in fact under the image it states female cat flea.

I have a couple of issues:

1) My image that was loaded up previously was perfectly adequate & at least indicated where the genal & pronotal combs of fleas are located.

2) Entomologists use the genal comb as an aid to the identification between cat fleas & dog fleas.

In cat fleas the first & second spine of the genal comb are roughly of equal length whereas in the dog flea there is a obvious difference. if you look at the image there is an obvious difference of length between the first & second spine of the genal comb. In other words i am disputing the image is of a cat flea !
