Spelling of Cassiopea

[edit]

I know that the name of the similarly-named character from Greek myth is spelled "Cassiopeia", but the Encantadia character's name is spelled "Cassiopea" (without a second I). I should know; I work for GMA Network. Mercury McKinnon 09:10, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

But this article from the iGMA.tv website disagrees with you. --Jojit fb 10:25, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted the edits to "Cassiopeia". Actually, that spelling is commonly used in many writings, blogs, and even in GMA Network's official site than "Cassiopea". Although, I indicated that "Cassiopea" is an alternate spelling. For a standard spelling here in Wikipedia, I suggest that we "Cassiopeia" because it is already being used in all Encantadia related articles. --Jojit fb 02:53, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, "Cassiopea" is the official spelling of this character's name. Fan blogs and writings are not authoritative: I guess these presumed the spelling "Cassiopeia" because that is how the name is spelled in Greek mythology, from which the Encantadia character's name is obviously derived. The one article you cited is a misspelling; the majority of articles and press releases on official GMA sites -- as well as the official promotional banner designed for this character (of the same style as the ones naming the 4 Sang'gres seen on the official Encantadia site's homepage) -- correctly spell the name as "Cassiopea". I'll try to provide links or scans that show the "Cassiopea" spelling. Mercury McKinnon 03:48, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Here are some official links:

Seeing the official promotional banner for the Cassiopea character would settle this authoritatively. (For each telefantasya character, GMA designs a gorgeous banner/poster that bears the character's image and name. These banners are then used for promotional and advertising purposes.) Unfortunately, I have not been able to find linkable images of Cassiopea's banner. But -- if you are ever in Quezon City -- there are large Etheria character banners/billboards at the GMA Network complex (where I work), which are prominently displayed to ground-level commuters on 3 sides of the premises, including the one on EDSA where the banners for Cassiopea (and Mine-a) can be seen. I also believe there are video versions of these banners aired on TV, although I have not personally seen the one for Cassiopea. Mercury McKinnon 04:47, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I'm convinced. IMDB's entry also indicates that the spelling is "Cassiopea". If that is the case, we will need to change other Encantadia-related articles with the "Cassiopeia" spelling so that it would be consistent here in Wikipedia. --Jojit fb 07:01, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Great! No problem with correcting the spelling throughout Wiki. I plan to comb through the Encantadia articles over the holidays. Thanks. Mercury McKinnon 15:05, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
