Effects from Trinity

[edit]

The article states that Carrizozo is about 50 miles from Trinity site. If one uses the measuring tool at Google Earth, on a straight line, the town of Carrizozo is about 35 miles from ground zero. The appropriately named Oscura ("dark" in Spanish) mountains lie between the Site and the town and shielded it from any immediate affect of the blast. I was born in Carrizozo on December 25, 1944 and was six months old at the time of the test. My dad told me the loud explosion and bright light woke me up bawling. Citizens were initially told that an army munitions site had exploded.

Cancer rates among the people in the downrange area have been significantly higher than normal. Bills have been introduced in Congress to compensate all downrange people who were affected by the fallout, but without success. Similar measures have been passed for victims of the later Nevada tests. Wikiphanatic (talk) 01:56, 18 March 2014 (UTC)Fred Chavez[reply]
