[edit]

I disagree 100% with the reviewer’s comment that this page needs to be rewritten or removed entirely, which was apparently based on the idea that the creek is not “notable” enough.

(1) I am not aware of any Wikipedia notability standards FOR CREEKS, just as I am not aware of any notability standards for populated places, or even formerly populated places now abandoned. If a place appears on a map of general applicability, such as Google Maps, then it may justifiably be the basis of a Wikipedia page. This creek appears on GNIS, as well as Google Maps and Natural Atlas. It is a reasonable subject of a page.

(2) If you need notability, look at a map. Mescalero Lake is one of the two most prominent geographic features on the whole Mescalero Reservation (the other being Sierra Blanca Peak), and certainly the most prominent body of water. Carrizo Creek in turn is one of two tributaries of the lake, and the outflow creek for the entire lake. How can anyone say it’s not notable-- unless they are trying to take the position that nothing which happens on the Mescalero Reservation is notable.

(3) The Disambiguation Police (yeah, they seem to exist on Wikipedia) object when you make an entry on a disambiguation page without actually writing a page on the subject. In other words, the Carrizo Creek and Carrizo Wash disambiguation page cannot contain a notation that says the Carrizo Creek that runs through the Mescalero Reservation of New Mexico is not the same as the Carrizo Creek (New Mexico/Texas), despite both being in New Mexico. Someone actually has to write the page on Carrizo Creek (Mescalero Reservation) in order to make that distinction on the disambiguation page. So for disambiguation purposes alone, this page is justified.

And may I humbly suggest that if a person believes a page should be rewritten, that they rewrite it? TulGuy (talk) 18:34, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
