What is this?

[edit]

I'm thinking this is a fictional creature, possibly from World of Warcraft. If so, a note of that should be made on this page. – Mipadi July 1, 2005 15:19 (UTC)

No, it's from D&D. WoW may have, um, borrowed it, but it's certainly not from there. MasterGrazzt 06:50, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Contradiction

[edit]

This article has at least two separate contradictions.

  • Is it a scavenger (eats carrion) or a predator ("it uses its tentacles to stun its prey") ?
  • The text says there are a pair of paralysing tentacles on the sides of its head, but the picture does not represent them as a pair. Zargulon 08:15, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Without having looked it up, I do believe it is a scavenger primarily, but will eat live prey when the opportunity presents itself. If someone with actual source material handy could check that, this issue can be easily resolved.

  1. A carrion crawler has, according to the illustration and text in the 3rd edition Monster Manual, eight tentacles near its mouth. However, the description says the tentacles are two feet long, hence the confusion.
  2. They do mainly eat dead/decaying flesh, but they will also "attack and kill living creatures." (Quote from Monster Manual 3E.)

Image

[edit]

I did have a good laugh over the current image. I appreciate their are copyright problems with images from game material, but presumably we can do better than this...? --Legis (talk - contribs) 17:36, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

LOL - I would like to think so. :) 204.153.84.10 (talk) 17:44, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Heh. I contributed this after the Beholder.jpg controversy. Thought it might get a laugh or two. Anyway, it took about 2 minutes in MS Paint, so feel free to replace with something not, you know, awful. -- Gaius Octavius | Talk 15:50, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're such a trouble-maker. ;) 67.175.176.178 (talk) 05:04, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Rawr! It's been about a year since anyone's considered using another image. I don't know how to edit properly, so I'm just hoping to bring the page to the attention of a more competent editor who might have some better fan art. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.231.161.82 (talk) 21:24, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
