Lead section

[edit]

I want to clarify some things regarding this change done by an anonymous IP. According to WP:ETHNICITY, "A 2018 RfC on Spanish regional identity in the lead resulted in consensus to use the regional identity used most often in reliable sources with which the subject identifies most." Hardly any reliable source calls her a "Spanish linguist", "lingüista española" or "lingüista espanyola", whereas she is presented as Catalonian by sources such as El Periódico de Catalunya, elDiario.es, El Punt Avui, El Nacional, NacióDigital, Diari d'Andorra, betevé, Segre, and the Basque Government. Therefore, she should be mentioned as Catalan in the lead section, regardless of her Spanish citizenship. --Brunnaiz (talk) 20:28, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Other examples of this include (but are not limited to) Marina Rossell, Vicenç Pagès, Jaume Sisa, Cesk Freixas, Jaume Miravitlles, Aurora Díaz-Plaja i Contestí, Pere Calders, Meritxell Serret, and Montserrat Venturós i Villalba. -- Brunnaiz (talk) 20:45, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Alsoriano97. I don't understand why you suppressed some useful wikilinks, the ones leading to linguist and single mother. I think they are meaningful and direct to other related articles. --Brunnaiz (talk) 11:54, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

because they are not useful. _-_Alsor (talk) 14:56, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you want me to continue editing the article, let me do it. And, if not, I'll stop. _-_Alsor (talk) 14:57, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Per WP:OVERLINK everyday words and phrases should not be linked. "Single mother" should definitely not be linked. I've also de-linked "thesis", "consultant" and "languages". "Linguist" is marginal and just about ok. DeCausa (talk) 15:06, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is exactly the point. Thank you for your clarification. _-_Alsor (talk) 15:11, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
DeCausa Personally, I wouldn't consider "linguist" to be a common occupation. Many people wouldn't be able to describe what it focuses on without mistaking it for a translator. I think that wikilink should be used. --Brunnaiz (talk) 19:51, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's why I said "just about ok". DeCausa (talk) 19:55, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
DeCausa Should I recover that link, then? --Brunnaiz (talk) 20:33, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's not my decision - but I don't object. DeCausa (talk) 20:35, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it's wrong to include it either. _-_Alsor (talk) 21:27, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alsoriano97 When did I imply I don't want you to edit this article? Anyone can, and I'm happy anyone does. I just wanted to understand the reason why you did that specific change, since you didn't explain it in the edit summary. Thankfully, though, another user eventually did. --Brunnaiz (talk) 19:47, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
