Quotes
[edit]This article has been tagged for being a little too fleshy with the quotes. Perhaps the regular contributors to this page could make the necessary deletions to trim down the excess?
I'll keep it on watch and make the deletions myself in a few hours or so to keep it in compliance with Wikipedia guidelines. --Dean1970 04:24, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
I deleted the quotes as they take up quite a lot of space and they are rather long, if left in its current state other editors (who think the same rules apply to them) may decide to add their quotes and before long the article take the appearance of personal archive of Mr Wunschs quotes. Please be aware that Wikipedia provides a separate area called Wikiquotes, and encourages, and welcomes, editors to contribute in this section. Thank You. --Dean1970 21:32, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
- You deleted the quotes because they didn't fit your POV. Please don't do this. By all means add others; but CW's views on climate change are actually rather nuanced and interesting adnwell worth including William M. Connolley 21:38, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
William, please refrain from ghosting me, Durova hit on this activity on the COI board. --Dean1970 21:45, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
- Dunno what you mean by ghosting guv. If you're suggesting I'm following you around... don't give yourself airs; use the history button William M. Connolley 21:58, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
No, check the history again, I left a message out of courtesy for regular editors to make the necessary adjustments and tone down what is obviously excessive quotes. There was no response to that request! And indeed, you're nickname must be pinocchio if you're going to insist that you didn't wait until I made the changes to come in here and staart aggro with me. As for giving myself "airs"...i'm not the one bagging a ride on The Great Global Warming Swindle article insisting my name and website be promo'd all over its critism. Look in the mirror pal. As for POV accusation, you're the one who consistently farts up that page with YOUR agenda pushing! --Dean1970 22:16, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Article Worthless
[edit]As a biography this article is pretty much worthless. There's nothing about Wunsch and his achievements. His greatest achievement (IMHO) is in correctly identifying the dynamics of the long-period tides as short planetary waves in a forced system with low Q (Wunsch et al., Dynamics of Long-Period Tides, Progress in Oceanography, V40 81-108, 1997). This problem has been around since the time Laplace and received much attention from Lord Kelvin. It's fair to say that Hank Stommel (Wunsch's PhD supervisor) invented oceanography, and Wunsch made it what is today. Ketabatic (talk) 08:14, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
Quotes removed, article still needs development
[edit]Having been working on several biographies on wikipedia, I found the excessive quotes that people discussed above to be not appropriate for this biography, or an encyclopedia. At the very least, the quotes make it appear that Wunsch's career and biography is centered on this one unfortunate incident. So I've removed the quotes and reduced the section down to a brief mention of the documentary. This article does need considerable development to describe Wunsch's quite notable career. The article is still missing the mark quite badly! Bdushaw (talk) 21:26, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
