Article has been robbed of detail

[edit]

I decided to "be bold" and add back facts and quotes removed by Davrg. One might argue that there is NPOV in those paragraphs, but the Carl Rowan quotes are accurate and he did change his story. There are even links to the sources used.

I can see rewording it, but unless the quotes are incorrect or the sources are bad there is no reason to remove it, even if the facts of the case support gun rights groups. 66.173.192.96 20:06, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously this article underwent editing prior to "14 February 2006", but article's earlier history was somehow removed. Creepy. Perhaps it vanished "accidently on purpose" during the merging of this article with a duplicate article mentioned below ?

Other problems with this biographical article:

  • Mentions nothing about Carl Rowan's parents. I am curious whether either had college degrees ? His early influences towards a career in journalism ?
  • He had least one child, a former G-Man, so why is Rowan's wife not mentioned ? Who he married and when is all public record.
  • As mentioned below, Rowan was indeed perceived by all to espouse reliably liberal opinions. However, this fact as well as the article's assertion that "he always came across as the voice of reason" -- both should have sources noted, even if it was a hagiographic obituary.
  • Project Excellence sounds very worthwhile; I'd like to see a URL to a page that lists its mailing address.

How ironic that this article on a journalist be so obviously eviscerated. It contains less information than even the sparest genealogy. RRBeatty (talk) 20:03, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm guessing Carl T. Rowan is the same person... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.79.156.42 (talk) 08:14, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fake degrees? Or honorary?

[edit]

This Tucker Carlson column on people with bogus information in their Who's Who entries identifies Rowan as listing 22 college degrees, including 3 awarded in 1966. If these were actually honorary degrees, that doesn't seem like a big deal, but if they are falsified, that should go in the controversy section: http://members.forbes.com/fyi/1999/0308/063.html Lippard (talk) 14:23, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Carl was a well known liberal.

[edit]

Article states: "Rowan was a fair opponent whose arguments were persuasive and well-balanced - he always came across as the voice of reason."

This seems to me to conflict with his reputation as a well-known liberal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.136.150.113 (talk) 20:48, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just Curious

[edit]

His training seems to be in journalism; I was just wondering how he qualified for the government jobs? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.136.150.113 (talk) 20:50, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wouldn't being a journalist trusted by Democratic administrations be qualification enough to head USIA ? RRBeatty (talk) 19:40, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
