Opera in English

[edit]

Were all of the company's operas in English? If so, we should clarify, down in the paragraph about the 1880s, that the company *always* performed in English. -- Ssilvers (talk) 13:54, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I know all operas were given in English, but I couldn't put hand on heart and assert that no foreign language perfs were ever given. I think the furthest one could go is to say that opera in English was Rosa's policy and that the company continued that policy after his death. "The Guardian" (24 August 1960, p. 5) reporting on the forthcoming (and last) London season mentioned the translations. - Tim riley (talk) 17:45, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have added a reference to Herman Klein's memorial lecture which makes the point about English translation. - Tim riley (talk) 19:07, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment

[edit]

I am promoting this article to B-class. There is more to say about Rosa, but the article certainly covers the basics and is now well-referenced. -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:46, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
