[edit]Seems that some people have been deleting any mention of The Tube since it was dismantled in 2010. This seems a shame because it was certainly a very notable landmark building in Cardiff. Some of the better sources will be offline, I'll add them when I have a chance to get a copy of the offline news articles. And if anyone can explain why the image isn't appearing in the 'infobox' I'd be very greatful! Sionk (talk) 00:46, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre ('The Tube') → Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre – The Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre is now an office within Wales Millennium Centre, "The Tube" was only a local name for the structure. So both should be merged into Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre SethWhales talk 10:15, 23 January 2016 (UTC) Relisted. Jenks24 (talk) 09:35, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose this article is a structure article about a building that no longer exists. The target is for the current visitor centre, which still exists. WP:NOTPAPER we are not a paper encyclopedia. There is no limit on the number of articles that exists. Instead rename to The Tube (Cardiff) to indicate this is about the building and not the centre -- 70.51.200.135 (talk) 10:51, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
- Procedural close WP:RM is for move requests, not merger requests. Mergers are handled at WP:PM -- 70.51.200.135 (talk) 10:52, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose rename, as far as I understand what this Seth is proposing. This article is clearly about the award winning building that was located in Cardiff Bay until 2010 (and was the Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre for 20 years). To be honest, I searched online for sources on which to base a separate article about the Visitor Centre in the WMC, but could find no independent secondary sources whatsoever. The outlet in WMC clearly has no profile of any kind and, to be honest, The Tube probably still has the primary claim to the name Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre. Wikipedia isn't a tourism guide, it's an encyclopedia of well-known, important subjects, and the WMC outlet isn't one of them. It would be fine to mention the current centre in the "Later events" section of this article and probably in the Tourism in Wales article, if at all. Sionk (talk) 17:16, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Sionk, what I am proposing is that Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre which currently redirects to Wales Millennium Centre#Resident organisations and Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre ('The Tube') should be renamed/merged into Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre with no redirect and without ('The Tube') tagged on at the end. The problem for me is the name, if you are a football fan you would know that West Ham Utd play at Upton Park, although Wikipedia has the correct name of Boleyn Ground, not Boleyn Ground ('Upton Park') or Upton Park. The Tube was simply a nickname given to it by locals, that is all. SethWhales talk 18:12, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
- Regardles of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC wouldn't that be more confusing, considering the article isn't about the current Visitor Centre? 'The Tube' is a helpful disambiguator (though I'm not sure why I added the quotation marks). Sionk (talk) 19:24, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
- I cannot see the problem myself. For instance Cardiff Central Library does not just relate to the current building, but also covers previous buildings going back to 1861. In the future if Cardiff Central Library became too big, then they can be separated, i.e. Cardiff Central Library (1861 to 1882), and Cardiff Central Library (1882 to 1988) etc. etc. just like Wembley Stadium is separated to Wembley Stadium (1923). Therefore if the community wanted to change the name to Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre (1990 - 2010) I would support that too. I just have a problem with "The Tube" stuck at the end. - So you're disputing that the building was known as The Tube? Sionk (talk) 00:17, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
- I can't find any evidence to demonstrate that The Tube was the actual name of the building and not just a description used by locals. Nothing to indicate this here - the architects, here - Wales Online (or even here - What's On Cardiff, this is not the best reference) or even on the actual Wikipedia article Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre (known informally as 'the Tube'). So the only evidence that I can find, is that The Tube was a description of the building by locals rather than its actual name. I hope this helps the discussion. - How about WP:COMMONNAME? The reason I added 'The Tube' was as a disambiguation. Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre (The Tube) seems a better disambiguation than Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre (1990 - 2010). If you want to un-disambiguate this article, do you plan to create a redirect called Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre (Wales Millennium Centre) or similar? It seems a bit of a mouthful. - Comment No matter what decision is ultimately taken here, the current title is unwieldy. At the very least, the apostrophes should be removed from inside the parentheses. – PeeJay 15:55, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
- I've removed the apostrophes. That seems to be something we all agree on. Sionk (talk) 19:44, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
