Tarot cards

[edit]

Where are they?117.213.3.165 (talk) 15:19, 14 May 2013 (UTC)Donya[reply]

I went and added it. Chris857 (talk) 15:28, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Merge discussion

[edit]

Seems there is overlap between CARD (disambiguation) and Card. I'd be fine with either merging all CARD (all caps) usage here or with splitting CARD usage out from the card page. olderwiser 12:49, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Merge here. This page isn't so long it requires splitting. Clarityfiend (talk) 13:36, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Merge - yeah, I've wondered about this for a while, but never really had the motivation. Chris857 (talk) 17:07, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Magnetic data storage on cards?

[edit]

@Clarityfiend: Is there any legitimate reason for excluding the type of card[1] used for, e.g., NCR CRAM, from the dab page? I can see referring to it as card rather than as magnetic card, but not simply deleting it.

There isn't a legitimate article to link to. Currently, Magnetic card redirects to Magnetic stripe card, which is itself a WP:partial title match. NCR CRAM doesn't even mention the term, violating WP:DABMENTION. Clarityfiend (talk) 07:38, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There is Datacard (which needs to be renamed Data card), but Datacard/Data card or Magnetic card, those are still partial matches. Clarityfiend (talk)
Actually, Datacard isn't a match, not even partial.
After looking at the style guide, I see that there is a larger issue.
A lot of DAB pages have bolded entries for terms that don't have articles. Those are useful, and I had assumed that they were legitimate. However, the style guide talks solely about terms for which there are articles. Is that legitimate? If not, should this be listed under Wikipedia:Disambiguation#What not to include and Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Disambiguation pages#Examples of individual entries that should not be created? Should there be a robot to remove these? Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 15:23, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've edited a lot of dab pages and haven't seen more than a scattering of bolded/no-article entries. The primary purpose of dab pages is navigational, i.e. to direct the user to the appropriate article. Having no linked article defeats that purpose. Clarityfiend (talk) 19:59, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
How is data card not a partial match? And if it isn't even that, why are we having a disagreement about magnetic card? Clarityfiend (talk) 20:02, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a match because Datacard#Datacard types lists 4 types, none of which match:
  1. Expansion cardprinted-circuit board: inserted in a special slot in the device and used to add functions to this device;
  2. Memory card or flash card: a card which is inserted into the corresponding device socket and used for data storage and transmission;
  3. Identification card: a card that works by a contact/contactless interface and contains the data used for performance of various functions, for example access control in subway or offices. It is also used for prepaid services like banking and telecom;
  4. Datacard or "electronic card": a card dealing with e.g. geographical, climatic, road or topographical data to be displayed on the video screen of some device (computer or GPS navigator), or represented otherwise to be more convenient to use in a certain situation (for example, navigator’s vocal instructions)
Magnetic stripe card is also problematical because of the text is read by swiping, which does not apply to magnetic cards used as data storage media in computers.
The disagreement is because you reverted the entry and complained about the term Magnetic card. Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 16:19, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
