[edit]@Ronz: I understand the NotNews concern, yet this event has received significant coverage, not just in USA Today, whose reference was removed, but also by The New York Times, Washington Post, and elsewhere. To not include something about the allegation, would be a disservice to this article.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 18:20, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you. It's early in the news cycle yet, as the USA Today and NY Times coverage show. The Washington Post article is impressively detailed given that Mund apparently has said nothing yet about it, and is enough to erase my UNDUE and NOTNEWS concerns. I'm not sure how to summarize it at this point without follow-up from Mund. I'll give it a shot, realizing that we don't have much to work with yet. --Ronz (talk) 23:12, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- The Vogue and LATimes articles are more examples of the news cycle being too fresh. It will be interesting to see how this impacts the Miss America Org. I'll be surprised if this ends quietly. Whether Mund has much to do with what happens is just guesswork. --Ronz (talk) 04:08, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Ronz: IMHO the claim Mund made against Gretchen Carlson, should be included in some form. Moreover, The content regarding this event should not be written by one editor alone, and content not written by that editor be removed.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 06:32, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
Mund is giving interviews (https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Culture/gma-exclusive-miss-america-cara-mund-public-alleged/story?id=57352169 https://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/missamerica/miss-america-cara-mund-talks-gretchen-carlson-on-cnn/article_246ef645-bd89-5da5-a443-3808684c2509.html). Miss America Org seems to be withholding comment for the most part. I expect there will be some detailed reporting to draw from soon, especially if Miss America Org makes a substantial response.
It would be better to work on this at Miss America first, where BLP issues are easier to avoid and NOTNEWS problems are easier to address in the context of 90+ years of history. --Ronz (talk) 16:46, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
- Now with international attention: News Corp Australia.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 00:25, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
- Interesting article. It's an opinion piece with some good background in it. I guess it's easier to sell an article when the personal conflict is highlighted, and the author can throw in her own dramatic effects like using titles rather than names...
- I'm not seeing anything at Miss America, so I think we should continue to be cautious here in a BLP article.
- The Sept 9 Miss America Competition is close now. I expect there will be more articles to sort through before and after. --Ronz (talk) 16:15, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
Recent changes - lede, speaker, education
[edit]The recent changes [1] clearly don't have consensus, so should be removed while we work this out.
Lede: motivational speaker, American model, and
. Areas of notability should be given emphasis. No source has been indicated for modeling, nor is there any mention of modeling elsewhere in the article. The reference for her being a speaker is a press release, suggesting little or no encyclopedic value.
Speaker: The references are poor and demonstrate little or no encyclopedic value.
Education: Again, poor and promotional sources. WP:SOAP violation as sourced. The sources that were removed were far better. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 18:38, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Mariacricket:, @Naleksuh: as the other editors involved in this, could you comment? --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 16:07, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- I've removed the new material from the lede and the sentence about her being a speaker. Mariacricket had already restored the sourcing and content concerning Mund's education. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 18:20, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- The subsequent changes to sourcing are not improvements. If there are no independent sources, it probably doesn't deserve mention. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 22:08, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
Hello, I have been trying to figure out how to message you back. I hope this message finds you healthy and well. I have tried amending the citations to your criteria. I even added additional information and context from sources I found. I am just trying to update this biography. Please revert back to my past edit and let me know what more I can do.22:42, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for joining the discussion.
- This article falls under WP:BLP, which states: "We must get the article right. Be very firm about the use of high-quality sources."
- None of the sources you've provided are high quality. Most (all?) aren't even independent. I think it would be best to start there start there. What independent sources can be found? --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 22:51, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- One can argue how independent aaespeakers.com and oparalex.com are, but the latter isn't even reliable while the first is simple public relations that carries now weight and would violate WP:SOAP to use. The rest simply aren't independent, unless I'm overlooking something.
- Why remove a far better source and the information properly verified by it? --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 04:10, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
Would Cara Mund be the first woman from North Dakota's Congressional Delegation?
[edit]I saw inforum.com said Mund would be the first Congresswoman from North Dakota. But according to CNN, https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/09/politics/becca-balint-democratic-primary-vermont-house-seat/index.html only VERMONT has never had a woman in its Congressional Delegation. Now I checked Wikipedia, I can't find another woman from North Dakota in their Congressional Delegation, but there was a brief two or three week vacancy, perhaps a woman filled in then.?.?. this is worth researching. Deleting a HARVARD source in its own award
[edit]Interesting to see that someone deleted the Harvard.edu source in here for its own award to Ms. Mund, saying "UNDUE" SoCalGoetz (talk) 01:46, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
- Do you not understand WP:UNDUE nor WP:BLP? --Hipal (talk) 22:50, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
Change in leadership at Miss America
[edit]There was a contended sentence stating that in 2020, the Miss America leadership changed. There was no mention of causality in the statement and seems to be way, way off topic. I have removed it. Toddst1 (talk) 16:00, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
- Given the reference has three paragraphs about Mund, maybe something is due?
- Melhorn, Mark. "Miss America President and CEO Regina Hopper no longer with organization". Press of Atlantic City. --Hipal (talk) 17:07, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
- WP:NOTSCANDAL applies. Unless there is substantial corroboration, we should not infer. Toddst1 (talk) 21:31, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
- My concern is that the ref has three paragraphs about Mund. Is there something there that is not currently mentioned in this article that should be? --Hipal (talk) 03:33, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- WP:NOTSCANDAL applies. Unless there is substantial corroboration, we should not infer. Toddst1 (talk) 21:31, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
Miss America Predecessor Successor
